I felt sorry for the Sri Lankan government so here is the real story that nobody is talking about. It's all about the story of Tamil Eelam. This all starts long long before now, India and Sri Lanka were both invaded by the British and numerous others before that. When both of these nations got their independence, there were a number of different ethnic groups and some of the social balances had been offset by the importing of slaves by the British and also the principle use of divide and conquer, ie you train and use the minority to rule the majority who refused to work, particularly in Sri Lanka. I'm just going to skip abit here and go to the Indian independence......... When the indian independence occurred, there were a few races within India whom were unhappy with the outcome they recieved. The one that caused the biggest headache for India's government was of course what is now known as the state of Tamil Nadu. This was driven by Tamil Nadu's upper caste tamil's and I will discuss upper and lower caste shorly. Anyway Tamil Nadu has close to 65-70 million Indian tamils and they were extremely unhappy with the outcome of the nation of India. They wanted their own nation of Tamil Eelam which had been written about by a Tamil in Malaysia previously. So they protested, burnt themselves, died via suicides etc etc, there was mass chaos, when even every other state in India, accepted Hindi as the official language, Tamil Nadu refused and still kept harassing and caused ...

Over 7000 Muslims died in Srebrenica at the end of the 1992-1995 war. It is considered to be the worst single atrocity in Europe since World War II and has been legally constituted genocide. Maldives joined the Muslim world to raise money for the muslims of Bosnia. TVM promoted the event and raised a considerable amount througha telethone held in 1995. The President of the Maldives extends his warm greetings to the Leader of South Asia who routed the worst deadliest terrorism. Maldivian Leader Mohammed Nasheed said terrorism in Sri Lanka was an issue to security of the Maldives and a common issue to the South Asian region. Mr. Nasheed who arrived in the island yesterday on two-day official visit met President Rajapaksa at the Presidents House in Anuradhapura. Mr. Nasheed said the Presidents success in crushing terrorism has set an example to the entire world. In response, President Rajapaksa said the major task vested in him was to rebuild the war ravaged areas and bring normality to the lives of the civilians. The prevailing secure environment in the island will help tourism to flourish. This, the Maldivian Leader said was an impetus to the economy of his country. Minister Rohitha Bogollagama and Presidents Secretary Lalith Weeratunga were present at this meeting.

The US and Britain regimes have militarized the oil industry, making it extremely difficult for Argentina to reclaim a former state-owned oil company, says a noteworthy author. On Monday, Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner announced the decision to reclaim YPF, which was formerly a state-owned Argentine oil company, at a meeting with her cabinet and provincial governors. She said that Argentina had to take back the oil company since it is the only nation in Latin America "that does not manage its natural resources." The Argentine Congress is currently examining a proposal for legislation that would expropriate a 51percent share of the company. In response, the Spanish government announced that it could retaliate against Argentina economically.

As war looms between Sudan and South Sudan, Christians of southern origin living in Sudan fear retribution from its Islamic government. As of April 8, at least half a million ethnic southerners (the majority of whom are Christian) living in Sudan are now considered foreigners if they have not registered for citizenship. Officials in Khartoum, Sudan's capital, gave southerners another 30 days to register or leave the country. Most of those affected were refugees that fled north during the long civil war between the mostly Islamic north and the largely Christian south. The war, which ran from 1983 until the signing of a peace deal in 2005, killed nearly 2 million people. Most ethnically southern Sudanese living in Sudan have no strong ties to South Sudan, AllAfrica reported.... (Rescue Christians.org)

Any group of people that felt a socialite was stepping off of their pedestal to slum with them would want to turn the tables. This couple didn't want a legal, official, binding ceremony. They wanted something "quaint", with "local color". Had they taken it very seriously themselves, they wouldn't have been sitting at a table drinking rum punches from coconuts during the ceremony. Were they horribly victimized? No. Was this some statement by Islam against the Western world? Don't make me laugh. It was some young men, having a good laugh and making a buck off the rich tourist. To the racists posting here -- locals in every country under the sun have been mocking and taking advantage of tourists for centuries. It's hardly something specific to either Islam or the Maldives. I've not been there myself, but I have been to other 50 other countries .. and have had or seen similar experiences in most of them. Added 31/10/2010 Comments left by user "ttowntom" which sum up my views. A very astute observation. As a tourist myself, I've seen this countless times. A similar experience once happened to me...and it was in a predominantly Catholic country, not an Islam one. It's nothing but simple human nature.

Wataniya 3rd Anniversary "Maglalatik" or the "Coconut Shell Dance"is a mock-war dance, originating from the Spanish Regime, depicts a fight over the prized latik, or coconut meat residue. This dance, originally performed in the town of Biñan in Laguna, Philippines is also performed as a tribute to the patron saint of farmers, San Isidro de Labrador. Maglalatik is a four-part performance: the palipasan and the baligtaran showing the intense combat, and the paseo and the escaramusa, the reconciliation. All of the men use harnesses of coconut shells positioned on their backs, chests, hips, and thighs. And now... to present a modern version of the dance by mixing traditional Maglalatik beat with modern music such as "My Humps and "Bebot" ... presenting...the Filipino Wataniyans!!!

Traveler Megan McCormick heads beyond the southern tip of India, to two of the most beautiful tropical locations on earth: Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, has been an important trading port and commercial center since the 1870s. It is here that Megan begins her trip, traveling around town on a bajajs and sampling some exotic foods. From Colombo Megan sets our along the coast for Matara. On the way she sees toddy-tappers at work high in the coconut trees and stops off at Weligama, where the local industry is a peculiar type of fishing: stilt fishing. Megan wades out to the stilts embedded into the seabed and tries her hand with little success. Next day she reaches Matara and just outside the town is the temple of Wewurukannala, site of Sri Lanka's largest statue of Buddha. In Buttula Megan stays at a sanctuary called Yala Tissa. It's situated in the midst of beautiful countryside where reforestation programs are in progress. She then takes a bus to Arugam Bay, a fantastic place for hardcore surfers but also an area which has been caught in the crossfire of the civil war between the government and Tamil rebels. Megan sees the evidence of political turmoil first hand when she takes a tour of the bombed cinema. From Arugam Bay, Megan hitches a ride to Ratnapura, which means 'City of Gems'. This is the town where miners come to sell their gems to the dealers. The most abundant gem is pink and blue sapphires and the occasional ruby. Megan goes ...
