| | Hanimaadhoo Airport Maldives - New concept Duration : 190 Seconds Proposed concept for the development of Hanimaadhoo Airport in Maldives. --------------------------------------------------------------- www.hapticarchitects.co.uk Quoted from Haptic: Haptic have joined forces again with Narud Stokke Wiig architects to develop a strategy for a new international airport in the Maldives. Currently home to a domestic airfield, Hanimaadhoo island is to be completely transformed with new terminal building in the lagoon. Haptic and Narud Stokke Wiig proposed a single terminal building, with all functions under a dramatic curving roof. The roof is formed as a timber diagrid structure with a lightweight, highly insulated skin. The terminal employs several passive design measures, from north facing rooflights and large roof overhangs, to minimise solar gain, to rainwater harvesting and roof mounted photovoltaics. The new airport embraces the Maldivian culture and natural setting through preservation of the island's coastline and landscape and in the selection of natural materials. The clarity of architectural form, with fully glazed facade and floating roof form provides an elegant and contemporary statement - a fitting gateway to one of the worlds most beautiful destinations. --------------------------------------------------------------- gizmodo.com Tags :hanimaadhoo, airport, maldives, gizmodo, anni, design, new, moahmed, nasheed, resorts, holiday, resort, dhivehi, dhivehin, raajje, raaje, TVM, dhitv, dhifm, youthtv, lol

| | Adnan's Speech Part 1,Advisor to the Minister of Housing Transport and Environment Duration : 460 Seconds Adnan Ali, .... accepted the invitation of the architects to speak at the meeting. In many ways he was instrumental in instigating this gathering. There have been a series of meetings with the regulator since June 2008 on their request to discuss amendments or some semantic details of the regulatory system administered by CIDS at the ministry. Very little pogress was made during these meetings as architects basically rejected the agenda set by CIDS and insisted on setting the agenda together and demanded a more inclusive and consultative format for decision making. When Mr Adnan Ali came into the picture, he saw that these meetings were going nowhere. At the last meeting, it was his provocation that without a consolidated body representing a collective voice, there could be no further meetings, that prompted the organizers of this gathering to set up this meeting.
