At the launch, Bodu Beru drummers, Maldivian cuisine, traditional games, Bodu Beru lessons and a coconut scraping competition were held. Photographic exhibition titled "Vulnerable", themed around climate change and its effect on the Maldivian Ecosystem was also exhibited at Hay-on-Wye. The photographic exhibition was exhibited by Maldivian environmental NGO Bluepeace.

UNADITTYA (Less than Sun God), World Premiered at Third South Asian Film Festival (SAFF) 2008, Goa, India The South Asian Film Festival (SAFF) with the theme of dissolving boundaries is one of very few festivals, designed for a larger socio-cultural and political objective and this sets it apart from the other festivals. The annual 'South Asian Film Festival... dissolving boundaries', organized by South Asia Foundation has now become a major film based event in the region. South Asian Film Festival, being the most prestigious and only South Asian Film related cultural event to bring the South Asian countries together, is receiving tremendous support from the film fraternity of the entire South Asian Region. The aim of the Festival is to forge an environment of peace and harmony among the countries in the region. Further, its objective is to provide a forum for film-makers to discuss their works, exchange creative and technical expertise in film-making, ensure the participation of policy planners and opinion makers and facilitate marketing of films from the countries within the region that will enhance mutual trade opportunities. The SAFF has been receiving support & participation from all the eight South Asian countries -Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Maldives, Pakistan, Bhutan & India. While the Festival has been receiving support from the entire South Asian film industry, the support from the Indian film industry is exceptionally commendable ...

So knappsten sie sich lediglich im Roten Meer ein paar Stunden von der Nachtruhe ab um Impressionen einzufangen, die die Vielfalt von Farben und Formen, losgelöst vom Hintergrund und freigestellt von der Schwärze der Nacht auf den Betrachter wirken lassen. The South Asian Bands Festival was a three-day musical extravaganza featuring fourteen popular rock bands from across seven nations at Purana Qila, New Delhi from February 20, 2009 - February 22, 2009. Presenting various genres of music ranging from the ethnic to the fusion, the participating bands performing from India were Vishal-Shekhar (Mumbai), Jasbir Jassi (Delhi), Parikrama (Delhi), Them Clones (Delhi), Agnee Band (Pune), Shaair + Func (Mumbai), Swarathma (Bangalore) and Skinny Alley (Kolkata). The other performing bands were Aryan Band (Afghanistan), Miles (Bangladesh), Soul Sounds (Sri Lanka), Robin & The Revolution (Nepal), Trio (Maldives) and Who's Your Daddy (Bhutan). The South Asian Bands festival is a tribute to music and it's ability to transcend language, boundaries, people and culture. Sungka is a Philippine mancala game which is today also played wherever Philippine migrants are living; eg in Taiwan, Germany, and the USA. Like the closely related congkak it is traditionally a women's game. Sungka was first described outside of Asia in 1894 by the American ethnologist Stewart Culin. Sungka is similar to many other Southern Asian mancala games such as naranj (Maldives), dakon (Java), congkak (Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia) and tchonka (Marianas). The game differs from kalah which is known in North America and Europe in being a multi-lap game. Another important difference is that the first move is executed simultaneously in sungka which is meant to balance the game. Sungka is distinguished from congkak by being played counterclockwise and also by some other minor rule differences. Sungka is an important means for creating identity, particularly for Philippine migrants. This can be seen in sungka competitions, which are organized in the Philippines, and in the representation of Philippine culture at cultural festivals through Sungka demonstrations. The identity forming function of the game is also a central theme in Sungka and Smiling Irish Eyes, A Boy discovers what it means to be Half-Irish and Half-Filipino by Natalie Gonzales-Sullaway. The feminist poet and communication scientist Alison M. De La Cruz wrote in 1999 a one-woman performance called Sungka, which analyses the societal and family-related expectations in regard to gender-specific behavior ...
