| | Jon Bagul, Professional Batik Silk Painting Duration : 396 Seconds Jon Bagul, born in Sabah and now living and working in Kuala Lumpur, elevates the traditional art of batik to something sublime: his light, detailed brush strokes and refreshing combinations of vibrant colors allow the viewer to step into his paintings. The uniqueness of his designs, which still retain traditional elements, are not just popular with residents of Kuala Lumpur but are also selling well to personal collectors from around the world. Recently one of Jon's paintings was presented to the Chinese President by the Malaysian Prime Minister at a ceremony to celebrate Sino-Malaysian relations. No better artist could have been chosen to represent both the traditional and modern aspects of art in Malaysia. Batik painting, using as it does, silk as its basis has enabled Jon to extend his work into soft furnishing and interior design accessories, including table runners and tablecloths, floor and throw cushions. These unique and desirable items, all with his trademark flowers are garnering interest from many quarters and he has been enjoying commissions from local corporations, private individuals and foreign and local dignitaries. Not surprisingly, given the comprehensive range of decorative items Jon Bagul can create he was asked to decorate the Heliconia Restaurant in Jalan Tangsi, Kuala Lumpur, with paintings and table runners. Whether you are looking for a one-off exclusive painting to enjoy in your own home, or maybe a few cushions and soft-furnishings for a ... The dives began the following day after a checkout dive the day before. Sketches were made in plus sizes by 24 artists, 11 from Malaysia and 13 from Singapore, using oil pastels in little mesh bags carried with them. Some astonishing sketches of barracudas and octopuses with schooling fish and branching corals lined the canvas, a specially sized canvas to withstand the elements of salt water. All materials used in this painting are non-toxic. It took 24 artists and three dives of about 45 minutes each dive to finish the canvas. A total of 56.4 metres were painted out of the 60 metre long canvas, creating an ... | | Handicraft from Malaysia by Asiatravel.com Duration : 172 Seconds Download Free $120 cash vouchers at www.asiatravel.com to offset payment at www.asiatravel.com For Bookings www.asiatravel.com For More Video: book.asiatravel.com Handicraft, also known as craftwork or simply craft, is a type of work where useful and decorative devices are made completely by hand or using only simple tools. Usually the term is applied to traditional means of making goods. The individual artisanship of the items is a paramount criterion, such items often have cultural and/or religious significance. Items made by mass production or machines are not handicrafts. Usually, what distinguishes the term handicraft from the frequently used category arts and crafts is a matter of intent: handicraft items are intended to be used, worn, etc, having a purpose beyond simple decoration. Handicrafts are generally considered more traditional work, created as a necessary part of daily life, while arts and crafts implies more of a hobby pursuit and a demonstration/perfection of a creative technique. In practical terms, the categories have a great deal of overlap. Named after Britain's King George III, George Town is located on the north-east corner of Penang Island and has about 220000 inhabitants, or about 400000 including the suburbs. Formerly a municipality and then a city in its own right, since 1976 George Town has been part of the municipality of Penang Island, though the area formerly governed by the city council is still commonly referred to as a city, and is also known as Tanjung ("The Cape") in Malay and 喬治市(Qiáozhì Shì) in Chinese. The inner city of George Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. George Town was founded in 1786 by Captain Francis Light, a trader for the British East India Company, as base for the company in the Malay States. He obtained the island of Penang from the Sultan of Kedah and built Fort Cornwallis on the north-eastern corner of the island. The fort became the nexus of a growing trading post and the island's population reached 12000 by 1804. The town was built on swampy land that had to be cleared of vegetation, levelled and filled. The original commercial town was laid out between Light Street, Beach Street (then running close to the seashore), Malabar Street (subsequently called Chulia Street) and Pitt Street (now called Masjid Kapitan Keling Street ...
