A bedtime story for all Malawian children! Chichewa is an endangered language. Malawi, now being a home to many immigrants, is favouring the use of English in business and administrative matters. Some children born to Malawian parents do not even speak Chichewa which really is unforgivable. A language is not only a means of communication between peoples but a vector of cultural mores. A language safeguards traditions and folklore and a history of a certain people. It is time for us Malawians at home and abroad to reclaim our heritage and speak to each other and to our children in this beautiful tongue that is Chichewa. We need to help Chichewa adapt and grow and become dynamic so as to keep up with the pressures that modernity places on it in this fast-paced changing world. I always think that the first place to start is with our children. So, our first story : Anyani atatu ndi Nangondo.

Directed and created in Malawi by In Tune for Life partner Luke Whittaker (www.stateofplaygames.com), in association with Theatre for a Change Malawi (www.tfacafrica.com) and Christian Aid, this drama was written and acted by the Theatre for a Change ABC group in Lilongwe.
