DuPont Helps Farmers Increase Higher Quality Crop Yields
Duration : 120 Seconds

www.pioneer.com Title: Seeds of the Future Africa's agricultural sector has the potential to produce enough food to help end Malawi's hunger and address global hunger as well. But Malawian farmers first need a drought-resistant, highly nutritional seed that would produce higher crop yields in difficult farm areas. This documentary takes us through the experience of Zeka Twoboy, a Malawian farmer. DuPont developed a hybrid seed that will work well in the local environment. Together with dedicated third-party distributors, DuPont is bringing Pioneer hybrid seed technology to local farmers, resulting in more nutritious and higher crop yields and improved quality of life. TITLE MALAWI PATRICK KHEMBO MANAGING DIRECTOR, CHEMICALS & MARKETING COMPANY LIMITED Farming in southern Africa is a big challenge. Crop failures are not uncommon. It's tormenting. ZEKA TWOBOY MAIZE FARMER The challenges I face as a farmer include pests and changes in climate. MAIN TITLE SEEDS OF THE FUTURE ZEKA TWOBOY To combat this I was trying out different seeds, and that's when I came across Pioneer seeds and gave them a try. I have a small piece of land and I had a huge harvest. I was so happy. People in my village started accusing me of magic and witchcraft. They were so jealous I began to feel unwelcome. My family encouraged me to go to the town of Blantyre to tell the seed producers about my bumper crop. PATRICK KHEMBO They decided to interview Zeka on the radio. People in the village were able to ...

farmingfirst.org In May 2009, Farming First interviewed Mr. Idrissa Mwale, Principal Economist at the Ministry of Agriculture in Malawi. Mr. Mwale has coordinated the country's farm subsidy programme, which targets the most needy farming households with subsidised seed and fertilizer. Foundations for Farming Malawi Champs Conference 2011
Duration : 219 Seconds

Around 60-70 trainers, farmers and leaders from other ministries and charities gathered in Blantyre for Foundations for Farming Malawi's second annual Champions conference. Last year's conference had the theme 'the Times of Change' (the title of the Foundations for Farming film made by Johann van der Ham, who heads up Foundations for Farming in Malawi). At this year's conference there was a definite feeling that times are changing and so the teaching centred around God's faithfulness in the face of adversity. Craig Deall, the CEO of Foundations for Farming in Zimbabwe and Darryl Edwards, who manages a Foundations for Farming training centre in Manicaland Zimbabwe, came for the conference. Darryl Edwards taught a session on profitable farming and how to make the most out of the crops that you grow, he also lead a theoretical and practical session on composting. Johann van der Ham and Billy Bray (who helps Johann lead the Foundations for Farming base in Malawi) are also working with Crown Financial Ministries in Malawi and were very blessed to have Crown's Vice President for Africa Andre Stryger and Jan Strydom Vice President for Global Career Development visiting for the Champions conference. Crown Financial Ministries teaches faithfulness and good stewardship of money, business and resources and so their teachings go very well with the teachings of Foundations for Farming. Billy Bray lead a session on God's economy vs man's economy, and Jan Strydom lead a session based on ...

Oyster Mushroom Farming Course - Malawi - Bunda College
Duration : 464 Seconds

How to grow oyster mushroom as a income generating activity. Course taken at Bunda College (2008), where spores can be purchased (in bottle). Plastic bags can be bought at Polypack. Oyster Mushrooms are very simple to grow. I tried myself at a small scale and succeeded quite well. However... it is a lot of work prepare the bags (cutting, washing, drying and bagging). Then there are seasonal problems: during rainy season it is too wet, during winter it is too cold. Then they are occasional visitors: slugs came to eat mushrooms, and mouses to dig their nest. Pilot projects in two communities surrounding Bunda (including one woman group) were not convincing in respect of sustainability. Mushrooms were rarely available in town.
