We chart the dispute as it descended into near civil-war, with ex-government employees dragged from their desks and bridges blown up by the retreating President. Trains stopped running, the port was blockaded, and food and petrol became scarce. Ratsiraka still calls it a "coup d'etat," but whilst he laid siege to the capital, children began dying of hunger. Care International says living standards have regressed by ten years. Even Western businesses have gone bust, like the Floreal clothes manufacturer, which employed tens of thousands of people. ANTANANARIVO, Madagascar, 2 December 2009 The Indian Ocean island of Madagascar is a country in crisis. Since recent political unrest began this January, the country has been isolated and poverty among the people there has deepened. During weeks of rioting and violence, over 100 people were killed and thousands injured. The impact on the country especially the youth has been devastating. UNICEF has been working hard to help with the emotional and psychological trauma suffered by children. It is part of an effort to make sure their rights to be protected against all form of exploitation, especially violence and abuse, as outlined in article 36 of the Convention on the Rights of the child, are met. The organizations education and child protection sectors have supported the training of social workers and the implementation of psychosocial support to both primary and secondary schools.

The Merina were a dominant tribe in central Madagascar that succeeded by war and marriage in uniting the other tribes of the island under their rule to create the Merina Kingdom. King Radama I was recognized by the British as King of Madagascar after the Napoleonic wars. In the period that followed the kingdom shifted from one side to the other as Britain and France competed for control of the island. In the late 1880's France gained Madagascar, dethroned the last monarch, Queen Ranavalona III and exiled the royal family to Algeria. Madagascar has been a republic ever since.

Powiedzcie mi jak tu połączyć robienie teledysków ze szkołą, tym bardziej jak się wraca po 16:00 do domciu i do tego 2h lekcji i 4h nauki hmmm? Nieważne! Bardzo chciałam zrobić do tej piosenki bo jest super ( XD ) a po obejrzeniu Blowhole'a tym bardziej! Robiłam to aż dwa miechy! Zaczęłam to dosłownie na początku roku szkolnego! King Andrianampoinimerina (1785--1810) and his son, Radama I (1810--1828) succeeded in uniting nearly all of Madagascar under Merina rule. These kings and their successors descended from a line of ancient Merina royalty who ruled the lands of Imerina in the central Highlands of Madagascar since at least the 16th century. Even prior to their eventual domination and unification of the entire island, the political and cultural activities of Merina royalty were to leave an indelible mark on contemporary Malagasy identity. With the establishment of dominion over the greater part of the Highlands, Andrianampoinimerina became the first Merina monarch to be considered a king of Madagascar. The island continued to be ruled by a succession of Merina monarchs until the last of them, Ranavalona III, was deposed and exiled to Algeria by French forces who conquered and colonized the island in 1895. Angry at the cancellation of the Lambert Charter and seeking to restore property stolen from French citizens, France invaded Madagascar in 1883 in what became known as the first Franco-Hova War (Hova as a name referring to the Merina aristocrats). At the war's end, Madagascar ceded Antsiranana (Diégo Suarez) on the northern coast to France and paid 560000 gold francs to the heirs of Joseph-François Lambert. In Europe, meanwhile, diplomats partitioning the African continent worked out an agreement whereby Britain, in order to obtain the Sultanate of Zanzibar, ceded its rights over Heligoland ...

After a couple of computer failures, a couple of reformatting of hard drives and about a terabyte of dvdrips I finally got round to making another dr who video! Thanks to Who-Fan9 for the Cpt. Jack 'I miss this' sound clip. I made this video to test out my video editing skills and to try out new methods, like the reversing effects I used 3/4 times. The song is from the Madagascar Movie, clips from dvds. I've spent about a week doing this for a couple hours each day. Some of the quality and timing isn't perfect, but the trial version of Ulead isn't perfect. I hope you enjoy it, I had fun showing it to my family. OPERATION IRONCLAD On the 5th of May 1942 British Forces landed in Northern Madagascar. Their objective was to liberate Madagascar from the Vichy French invaders and to seize control of the strategically important harbour of Diego Suarez. The British forces were successful in a surprise landing and Vichy French forces were caught unawares. However the Vichy counter-attacked and many British lives were lost. On the 6th of May 1942 Private Charles William Aldridge was killed in action and was buried in the small town of Diego Suarez. In October 2007 Todd Tai travelled to Northern Madagascar to find the grave of Private Aldridge and film this video for the descendants of Private Aldridge.
