Luxembourg, officially the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (Luxembourgish: Groussherzogtum Lëtzebuerg, French: Grand-Duché de Luxembourg, German: Großherzogtum Luxemburg), also spelled Luxemburg, is a small landlocked country in western Europe, bordered by Belgium, France, and Germany. The Monument of Remembrance (French: Monument du Souvenir), usually known by the nickname of the Gëlle Fra (Luxembourgish for 'Golden Lady'), is a war memorial in Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. It is dedicated to the thousands of Luxembourgers that volunteered for service in the armed forces in the Allied Powers in the First World War. The Gëlle Fra is situated in Constitution Square, in the Ville Haute quarter of central Luxembourg City.

Adolphe Bridge (Luxembourgish: Adolphe-Bréck, French: Pont Adolphe, German: Adolphe-Brücke) is an arch bridge in Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. The bridge takes road traffic across the Pétrusse, connecting Boulevard Royal, in Ville Haute, to Avenue de la Liberté, in Gare. At 17.2 m wide, it carries four lanes of road traffic, three to Gare and a bus lane to Ville Haute, and has two footpaths for pedestrians.[1] Adolphe Bridge has become an unofficial national symbol of sorts, representing Luxembourg's independence, and has become one of Luxembourg City's main tourist attractions. The bridge was designed by Paul Séjourné, a Frenchman, and Paul Rodange, a Luxembourger, and was built between 1900 and 1903. Its design was copied in the construction of Walnut Lane Bridge in Philadelphia, the United States.[2] Although it is now over 100 years old, it is also known as the New Bridge (Luxembourgish: Nei Bréck, French: Nouveau pont, German: Neue Brücke) by people from Luxembourg City. The 'old bridge' in this comparison is the Passerelle, which was built between 1859 and 1861.

The city of Luxembourg (Luxembourgish: Lëtzebuerg, German: Luxemburg), also known as Luxembourg City (Luxembourgish: Stad Lëtzebuerg, French: Ville de Luxembourg, German: Luxemburg Stadt), is a commune with city status, and the capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It is located at the confluence of the Alzette and Pétrusse rivers in southern Luxembourg and contains the historic Luxembourg Castle, established by the Franks in the Early Middle Ages, about which the area grew up. As of 2005, the commune of Luxembourg City has a population of 76,420, which is almost three times the population of the second most populous commune. The city's metropolitan population, including that of surrounding communes of Hesperange, Sandweiler, Strassen, and Walferdange, is 103,973. Luxembourg City lies at the heart of Western Europe, situated 188 km (117 miles) from Brussels, 289 km (179 miles) from Paris, 190 km (118 miles) from Cologne.[1] Luxembourg City is one of the wealthiest cities in the world, having developed into a banking and administrative centre. اللوكسمبورغ هي إحدى دول البنلوكس. تقع في غرب أوروبا، بين كل ألمانيا، فرنسا وبلجيكا و تُعد إحدى أصغر دول أوروبا مساحةً وسكاناً. شمال البلاد هو جزء من الآردن و يطلق عليه أوزلنغ (Ösling). ارتفاع هذه المنطقة يتراوح بين 400 و 500 متر فوق سطح البحر و تكثر الغابات و الهضاب و الوديان فيها. جبل بورغبالتز (Burgplatz) اللذي يبلغ ارتفاعه 559 متر هو أعلى جبل بالبلاد. تسمى منطقة الجنوب الخصبة بغوتلاند (Gutland) . هذه المنطقة بها كثافة سكانية أعلى من المنطقة الشمالية لسهولة أراضيها. أخفض بقعة في لوكسمبورغ هي شباتز (Spatz) و تبلغ 129 متر فوق سطح البحر. أهم أنهر الدوقية هو نهر موزل ، اللذي يشكل الحدود مع ألمانيا في الجنوب الشرقي. أنهر أخرى: زاور، أور و ألزيته. مناخ لوكسمبورغ متأثر بالرياح الآتية من المحيط الأطلسي. معدل هطول الأمطار و درجات الحرارة بشكل عام معتدلة. برزت كونتية لوتسلبورغ في القرن العاشر الميلادي و شكلت بذللك نواة اللوكسمبورغ الحديثة. السلالة الاوروبية "اللوكسمبورغ" صعدت إلى مقام الملوك في العصور الوسطى. وقعت اللوكسمبورغ منذ القرن الخامس عشر تحت السيطرة الاجنبية. أصبح للوكسمبورغ كيانها المعروف اليوم فقط بعد مؤتمر فيينا عام 1815، اللتي بقيت تحت اتحاد اسمي مع الأراضي المنخفضة لغاية عام 1890. بين عامي 1842 - 1919 كانت اللوكسمبورغ جزءاً من الاتحاد الجمركي الألماني. احتلها الألمان في الحربان العالميتان و حررها الحلفاء فيما بعد. شكلت مع هولندا و بلجيكا اتحاداً جمركياً عام 1948 ثم اتحاداً اقتصادياً عام 1958. اللوكسمبورغ هي اليوم أحد دول الاتحاد الاوروبي. لوكسمبورغ هي في الواقع مملكة دستورية يمثلها برلمان ديمقراطي. حسب دستور عام 1868 فإن الدوق الكبير هو حاكم الدولة. البرلمان، ذو المجلس الواحد، هو المخول بإصدار القوانين، كما يتم إنتخاب أعضاءه كل خمس سنوات. رئيس الحكومة يطلق عليه وزير الدولة و يقوم بإدارة 13 وزير آخر و سكرتيرة دولة واحدة. مجلس الدولة هو كيان استشاري يتكون من 27 عضو، اللذين يعينوا جميعاً من الدوق الكبير. [تحرير] التقسيم الاداري و أهم المدن المقاطعات الثلاثالبلاد مقسمة إلى ثلاث مقاطعات و 12 كانتونة و 118 بلدية. المقاطعات الثلاث هم: 1. ديكرش 2. غرفنماخر 3. لوكسمبورغ العاصمة اللتي تدعي أيضاً لوكسمبورغ هي أكبر المدن (حوالي 82200 نسمة)، ديفردينغن (حوالي 18900 نسمة) و دودلينغن (18000 نسمة).

Notre-Dame de Luxembourg est la cathédrale de l'archevêché de Luxembourg, à Luxembourg (ville). L'histoire de la cathédrale est liée à celle de la Compagnie de Jésus. En 1594, les premiers Jésuites s'installèrent à Luxembourg. Le 7 mai 1613 commença l'édification de leur église conventuelle. Les travaux furent achevés en 1621, et le 17 octobre, l'église fut consacrée à l'Immaculée Conception. En 1773, la Compagnie fut supprimée. Leur église à Luxembourg devint, en 1778, une église paroissiale, sous le nom de Saint-Nicolas-et-Sainte-Thérèse. En 1794, l'église accueillit la statue miraculeuse de la Consolatrice des Affligés (voir ci-dessous), qui se trouvait auparavant dans une chapelle de l'enceinte. En 1801, l'église changea de nouveau de nom : elle fut cette fois dédiée à saint Pierre, avant de retrouver sa dédicace à la Vierge Marie en 1848. Le 27 septembre 1870, l'église fut élevée au rang de cathédrale. Au XXe siècle, un agrandissement de la cathédrale fut décidé. Les travaux commencèrent le 12 mai 1935 et se poursuivirent jusqu'en 1938. Le chœur fut réaménagé en 1962--1963, suite à quoi la cathédrale fut de nouveau consacrée le 8 décembre 1963, jour de la fête de l'Immaculée Conception. La crypte qui fait partie de l'agrandissement de la cathédrale au XXe siècle est dédiée à saint Pierre. Elle fait fonction de nécropole de la famille grand-ducale et contient les tombeaux des évêques de Luxembourg. C'est dans cette crypte que Jean l'Aveugle, roi de Bohême et comte de Luxembourg a trouvé son dernier repos. Ce chevalier infatigable que l'on retrouve un peu partout en Europe, qu'il s'agisse de son comté natal ou du royaume de Bohême, de l'Allemagne où il fut le lieutenant de son père ou en Italie du Nord, à la cour et sur les champs de bataille des rois de France ou auprès des papes à Avignon ou encore en Lituanie lors des croisades de l'ordre teutonique, était le fils de l'empereur Henri VII et père de Charles IV. Il trouva la mort en 1346 au champ de bataille de Crécy au service du roi de France, dans une des premières campagnes de la guerre de Cent Ans. La cathédrale Notre-Dame de Luxembourg, de par son histoire, est devenue un temple de la mémoire luxembourgeoise. Le caractère national de l'édifice est souligné le jour de la Fête nationale quand la cérémonie officielle organisée par le gouvernement prend la forme d'un service d'action de grâces auquel participent les autorités luxembourgeoises et le corps diplomatique. L'édifice du XVIIe siècle est une église gothique posthume. Sur son portail principal en style baroque primitif on retrouve la statue de la Vierge entourée des apôtres Pierre et Paul ainsi qu'Ignace de Loyola et François Xavier, fondateurs de la Compagnie de Jésus. Plus tard une statue de saint Nicolas compléta l'ensemble. Le portail de la nouvelle partie de la cathédrale est marqué par l'ornementation due au sculpteur luxembourgeois Auguste Tremont et qui comprend presque cent figures humaines, une cinquantaine de représentations d'animaux et un riche décor végétal. Les battants en bronze des portes ont été réalisés par le même artiste. The origins of Vianden date back to the Gallo-Roman era when there was a castellum on the site of the present castle. The original name of Vianden was Viennensis or Vienna, probably derived from the Celtic vien, rock. The first historical reference to Vianden was in 698 when there is a record of a gift in the form of a vineyard in Monte Viennense made by Saint Irmina to the Abbey of Echternach[1]. Vianden possesses one of the oldest charters in Europe, granted in 1308 by Philip II, count of Vianden, from whom the family of Nassau-Vianden sprang, and who was consequently the ancestor of William of Orange[2]. In the middle ages, Vianden's craftsmen were recognised for their skills as tanners, drapers, weavers, barrelmakers, masons, locksmiths and goldsmiths. In 1490, they created guilds for their various trades. Over the years leathermaking became the major industry with the establishment of two tanneries at the end of the 19th century which finally closed in the mid 1950s. In addition to the castle, Vianden has a number of interesting historic monuments. The Hockelstur or belltower (1603) on a rock close to the castle was originally part of the fortifications. The ramparts which have been partly restored. The Church of the Trinitarians (1248) built in the Gothic style with two parallel naves and the adjacent cloister. It was built by Count Henry I in thanks to the Trinitarians who arranged for the release of his father, Count Frederic II, who had been captured during a crusade. The Cross of Justice close to the Church of the Trinitarians recalling the chartering of Vianden by Philip II in 1308. The towered castle houses built for the nobility including the City Hall (1579) and the house where the pharmacy is now situated (1475). The Church of St Nicholas (13th century) partly destroyed by fire in 1723 and rebuilt the following year. ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ Die Burg Vianden [Bearbeiten]Über der Stadt thront die Burg Vianden, die schon im Nibelungenlied genannt ist, und von der größere Teile in den letzten Jahrzehnten restauriert wurden. Die Burg ist eines der touristischen Wahrzeichen des Großherzogtums und kann besichtigt werden. Sie ist der ehemalige Sitz der Grafschaft Vianden und die selige Yolanda von Vianden ist auf dem Schloß geboren. Das Victor-Hugo-Haus [Bearbeiten]Zwischen 1862 und 1865 besuchte der berühmte französische Schriftsteller Victor Hugo das Großherzogtum Luxemburg und weilte zeitweise als politischer Flüchtling in Vianden. Das Haus, in dem Victor Hugo gelebt hat, ist bereits seit 1935 als Museum eingerichtet und kann besichtigt werden.

It is located at the confluence of the Alzette and Pétrusse rivers in southern Luxembourg and contains the historic Luxembourg Castle, established by the Franks in the Early Middle Ages, about which the area grew up. As of 2005, the commune of Luxembourg City has a population of 76,420, which is almost three times the population of the second most populous commune. The city's metropolitan population, including that of surrounding communes of Hesperange, Sandweiler, Strassen, and Walferdange, is 103,973. Luxembourg City lies at the heart of Western Europe, situated 188 km (117 miles) from Brussels, 289 km (179 miles) from Paris, 190 km (118 miles) from Cologne.[1] Luxembourg City is one of the wealthiest cities in the world, having developed into a banking and administrative centre. Luxembourg is a seat of several institutions of the European Union, including the European Court of Justice, the European Court of Auditors, and the European Investment Bank.
