2-5 Germanic Tribes 1 - Barbarians Against Romans
Duration : 608 Seconds

Germania, Germani, Germanica have all been used to refer to the group of peoples comprising of the German Tribes in the first centuries CE (AD), We have good and reliable written information from the Roman author Tacitus' Germania and Agricola, as well as other sources. The Migration Period, also called Barbarian Invasions or Völkerwanderung, is a name given by historians to a human migration which occurred within the period of roughly AD 300--700 in Europe, marking the transition from Late Antiquity to the Early Middle Ages. The migration included the Goths, Vandals, and Franks, among other Germanic, Bulgar and Slavic tribes. The migration may have been triggered by the incursions of the Huns (not a Germanic tribe), in turn connected to the Turkic migration in Central Asia, population pressures, or climate changes. The migration movement may be divided into two phases; the first phase, between AD 300 and 500, largely seen from the Mediterranean perspective, put Germanic peoples in control of most areas of the former Western Roman Empire. (See also: Ostrogoths, Visigoths, Burgundians, Alans, Langobards, Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Suebi, Alamanni). The first to formally enter Roman territory — as refugees from the Huns — were the Visigoths in 376. Tolerated by the Romans on condition that they defend the Danube frontier, they rebelled, eventually invading Italy and sacking Rome itself (410) before settling in Iberia and founding a 200-year-long kingdom there. They were ...

Heroes of the Battle of Britain - Episode 2 - First of The Few
Duration : 601 Seconds

Heroes of the Battle of Britain- Episode II- First of The Few (Part 1/2) Wing Commander Peter V Ayerst DFC First of The Few (Part 1/2) I was doing what we call Aerodrome defence. We used to take it in turns to do it. And you sat in the aircraft already strapped in, and if you got an early warning , that there was an aircraft approaching overt head or whatever. And our early warning system was produced by some French soldiers. In a big ditch down the side of our airfield. Just a grass airfield. One road either side, in France. A place called Rouve, between Verdun and Metz. South of Luxembourg. And I was sitting there. The chaps in the flight office, which was a 12 foot ridge tent, Our office...... Said "THE RED FLAG'S WAVING! THE RED FLAG"S WAVING!". November, 39. It was rather a day like today. Lots of Blue sky, no clouds. And I could see an aircraft at about 25000 feet over our air field. He was obviously doing some overhead photography of our field. So I took off. Of course, being on these 2 bladed air screws, the climbing performance wasn't very great, even at full throttle. So I was gradually getting up. I'd been chasing in an easterly direction for a long time trying to get him. And he was way ahead. And we had no radio aids. No navigational assistance from the ground whatsoever. We had intercommunication between aircraft but we didn't have communication with the ground for navigational assistance. Nothing like that. We used to patrol up and down the French german ...

Trier University - Commencement Ceremony - 2011
Duration : 1327 Seconds

The University of Trier is one of Rhineland-Palatinate's oldest and -- at the same time -- youngest universities. A University of Trier was first founded in 1473, but like other German universities located west of the Rhine it was closed by Napoleon in 1798. Trier, Germany's oldest city, can today call itself a university town again, however. In 1970, a new university was founded in Trier - initially, until 1975, with the University of Kaiserslautern as a twin institution. Since then, Trier has been developing into a major academic centre in a region characterized by its proximity to Belgium, France and Luxembourg. Currently, about 14000 students are enrolled at the University of Trier. There are six faculties which together cover more than thirty subject areas. The university employs 1000 people and is located on a hill with park areas and a gorgeous view onto the city. Since its beginnings in 1970, the University of Trier has not only been striving for excellence in research, but has also provided a fruitful and inspiring academic environment for its students. All faculties and supporting facilities are in close proximity to each other, thus allowing for and generating exchanges between departments. What is more, the university's scenic environment creates a serene and personal atmosphere on campus. The balance between research and teaching, the university's increasing internationalization, and interdisciplinary co-operations characterize many of the courses and degree ...

Who were our ancestors- Genetic history of Europe - DNA - Truth or Machination from IGENEA.
Duration : 325 Seconds

Who were our ancestors? From where do we originate? www.igenea.com Most people can trace their family tree back no further than three or four generations. Thanks to genetic analysis, however, it is possible to look back into millennia long past. The story of our ancestors is probably one of the most exciting of all time. It is the story of mankind. For decades the only evidence available to anthropologists and archaeologists were the small amount of bones and objects left behind by our ancestors. Hence, it was not possible to really prove the various theories of evolution. It is only in the past 20 years that researchers have been able to use the DNA of living people as a means of finding evidence of the migrations of their primeval ancestors. DNA is identical to a degree of 99.9 percent for all people. The remaining 0.1% is the source of individual differences (such as eye colour, certain risks of disease, or deviations with no apparent function). DNA-Genealogy makes it possible for you to research your family tree with the most modern methods. It makes fast and exact research into your family history possible, whether as your first venture into researching your ancestry or as a supplement to traditional genealogy. Where traditional research into your ancestry examines birth, marriage, and death certificates, a simple saliva sample is all that's needed for DNA-Genealogy. That's because each of us carries with us the most important and exact set of files needed: our DNA ...
