Fort Thüngen in Luxembourg, world heritage
Duration : 118 Seconds

Fort Thüngen is an eighteenth century fort, of which only three towers remained. A plan was devised to restore the fort and to add a new museum for modern art. The famous architect Joh Ming Pei was commissioned to design the new museum. After many discussions and changes the world heritage committee finally approved the plans. During the building of the new museum, the run-down fort could be rebuilt on the basis of original drawings. The division between old and new is clearly visible and became a Luxembourg style. Fort Thüngen conceived and built by the Austrian fort commander Baron Freiherr von Thüngen, later fortified by Vauban and made Extra Large by the Prussians, will spend its days at the Musée de la Forteresse and at the Grand-Duc Jean Museum of Modern Art. Market place Place d'Armes in Luxembourg, world heritage city
Duration : 87 Seconds

The market on place d'armes in the city centre of Luxembourg is part of the former fort. Of the old fortifications, some 10 percent still exists and is currently on the world heritage list. Before Luxembourg made the list, the government was in charge of ensuring that the monuments were protected. The aim was not to freeze the area in its current state. The area must continue to develop, but this development must not damage the value of the world heritage. This appears to have been successful and they seem to have struck a balance. Celtic Heritage of Luxembourg.mov

This is a clip about the celtic Heritage of Luxembourg. Luxembourg and Belgium both together can be a part of the celtic Nations as "Gallia Belgica"... The Luxembourgish language is a mixture of old Celtic/Galloroman and Germanic, based on a Dialect from the 5. centurie. The Belgo-Luxembourgish Culture is Celtic. But this old heritage can be lost when the people don't care about it...Galicia Asturia probably be the seventh Nation for the Celtic League, but i think that The new "Gallia Belgica" can be the eight Country... Luxembourg City - 9/12 (HD)
Duration : 503 Seconds

Although the capital city of Luxembourg is not particularly large, its layout is complex, as the city is set on several levels, straddling hills and dropping into the two gorges. The 70 m (230 ft) deep gorges are spanned by many bridges and viaducts. The city, because of its location and natural geography, has through history been a place of strategic military significance. The first fortifications were built as early as the 10th century. The Casemates Bock is a network of underground fortifications, built in the 18th century, that tunnel under the city. The fortifications and environs are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Luxembourg City is a seat of several institutions of the European Union, including the European Court of Justice, the European Court of Auditors, and the European Investment Bank. September 11, 2010

Trier - Germany - Unesco World Heritage Site
Duration : 109 Seconds

Trier is a city in Germany on the banks of the Moselle River. It is the oldest city in Germany, founded in or before 16 BC. Trier lies in a valley between low vine-covered hills of ruddy sandstone in the west of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, near the German border with Luxembourg and within the important Mosel wine-growing region. Trier is the oldest seat of a Christian bishop north of the Alps. In the Middle Ages, the Archbishop of Trier was an important ecclesiastical prince, as the Archbishopric of Trier controlled land from the French border to the Rhine. He was also one of the seven electors of the Holy Roman Empire. With an approximate population of 100000 Trier was, until 2005, ranked fourth alongside Kaiserslautern among the state's largest cities; after Mainz, Ludwigshafen and Koblenz[citation needed]. The nearest large cities in Germany are Saarbrücken, some 80 km southeast, and Koblenz, about 100 km northeast. The closest city to Trier is the capital of Luxembourg, some 50 km to the southwest. Trier is home to the University of Trier, the administration of the Trier-Saarburg district and the seat of the ADD (Aufsichts- und Dienstleistungsdirektion), which until 1999 was the borough authority of Trier. It is one of the five "central places" of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Along with Luxembourg, Metz and Saarbrücken, fellow constituent members of the QuattroPole union of cities, it also forms a central place of the greater region encompassing Saar-Lor ...

Beaufort Castle - Luxembourg 8/12 (HD)
Duration : 288 Seconds

The oldest part of the castle of Beaufort dates from the early 11th Century. It was a small square-shaped fortress on a massive rock, surrounded by a wide ditch and a second wall facing the valley. Around the first half of the 12th Century, a flanking tower was added and the access gate was moved and enlarged. The House of Beaufort became ruined by the Thirty Year War. Over time the old abandoned knights' castle slowly decayed. In 1850 the Luxembourg government declared the castle a cultural heritage. As of 1893 Beaufort castle acquired a new look under the new owner Henri Even and his son Joseph Linckels. The new palace was restored and the sheep farm was expanded. In 1928 Edmond Linckels cleared the rubble from the castle and the well and made the site available to the public. Since 1981 the castle and the chateau are owned by the Luxembourg state. Luxembourg City, Luxembourg -- A Visual Tour
Duration : 302 Seconds

I went to Luxembourg in 2000, I think. This video is a few years old and shows the eastern part of Luxembourg City down in the valley. I love this place, it's expensive and the people aren't as friendly as the Dutch, but being in Luxembourg City is like being in a spy-thriller or a fairy-tale. The place is loaded with history and every turn is a new view of something spectacular. Check it out...
