www.TravelsWithSheila.com Palanga is a popular resort town in the summer that was also Lithuania's main port from the 15-17th centuries. That may be but today was cold and windy. The group had only one brief hour in Palanga with over three possible options. Visit the Botanical Garden Park to see the Tiskevicius Manor House with its Amber Museum (closed). A walk through the pedestrian area only in the small town (too far away from where the bus left us off). Or, our choice, a walk on the beach looking for Amber that might have been washed up. (I wouldn't know what raw Amber looks like if it jumped up and bit me!)

Only in Vilnius can you just stroll into the front row with a camera and enjoy a world class performance by some of the most famous rock stars in the country. Watch uber-talented lead singer Giedrė Vitkauskaitė mesmerize the audience of cheering fans. This concert was a free performance sponsored by the European Institute of Gender Equality, whose offices are in Vilnius. Every year, Kernave, a little town in Lithuania, throws a big festival to celebrate the longest day of the year - Midsummer's Day, called Rasos in Lithuania. I've never celebrated Midsummer before, but I went along this year - 2009 - to see what was going on. Great folk music, huge bonfires, fire twirlers, and a really great, fun, laid back atmosphere, all on the site of ancient pagan hill-forts. Highly recommended!

jamesjosephbrown.com My stylist in Vilnius, Zavinta, has her work cut out for her. Shaving my head once a week is easy enough, but I usually talk her ear off and she has to put up with my antics so it's not as easy at it looks. And then every once in a while I decide to put her on my show. You can see from this episode that she is unimpressed. She is the stylist of many Vilnius celebrities, so my little dog and pony show is barely on her radar. But if you know JJB you know that I always say there is no shame in the D-list. I also say there is no such thing as bad publicity, but I haven't yet had the opportunity to test out this theory. It is my last day in Vilnius for the summer and I want to look my best for the balloon ride over the city I have planned in the evening, and of course for the return flight back to the States, because you never know who you'll meet in the friendly skies.

Last year over 100000 people spent the night wandering through the maze of cobblestone streets in Old Town Vilnius to enjoy free art exhibitions, poetry readings and open air concerts under the stars. Here I meet up with Diemante Merkeviciute and Linas Salna, two classically trained musicians who recently graduated from the MK Ciurlionis School of the Arts. We are on our way to the Mint Venetu bookstore, where I have been invited to participate in a showcase of local poets and performers.
