Ghadames or Ghadamis (Arabic: غدامس‎, Berber: ghdams / ɛadēməs; Libyan vernacular: ġdāməs) is an oasis town in the west of Libya. It lies roughly 549 km in the southwest of Tripoli, near the borders with Algeria and Tunisia. The oasis has a population of 7000, mainly Tuareg Berbers. The old part of the town, which is surrounded by a wall, has been declared World Heritage of the UNESCO. Each of the seven clans that used to live in this part of the town had its own district, of which each had a public place where festivals could be held.

International Film Festival "Festival of Festivals" in St.Petersburg 10, Kamennoostrovsky ave. St. Petersburg Russia, 197101 phone/fax: +7 (812) 237-03-04 e-mail: info@filmfest.ru www.filmfest.ru. Festival of Festivals Brings Indian Touch to City's Screens By Alec Luhn The St. Petersburg Times For The St. Petersburg Times A scene from Indian director Madhur Bhandarkar's film 'Fashion' which follows the competitive fashion industry and will be shown as part of the festival. The Festival of Festivals, as the St. Petersburg International Film Festival is known, opened earlier this week, bringing together old and new in a cinematic combination that will entertain film fans through Sunday. The harmony of past and present was exemplified at Tuesday's opening ceremony, which began with a Charlie Chaplin silent film, continued with Gene Kelly in the title scene from the 1952 musical "Singin' in the Rain" (set during Hollywood's transition from silent films to sound), and concluded with French director Fran?ois Ozon's new, dramatic attempt at magical realism, "Ricky." Asked what's new about the 17th annual Festival of Festivals, director Alexander Mamontov glibly replied, "100 new films." But he also admitted that besides its usual 100 to 120 cutting-edge films, this year's festival includes a unique retrospective program of foreign cinema. Whereas last year's event featured a retrospective of Irish films, the latest incarnation showcases past highlights of Czech, Montenegrin and ...

The Forgotten Refugees (The David Project) - Part 1
Duration : 601 Seconds

Produced by The David Project for Jewish Leadership and Isra TV, "The Forgotten Refugees" explores the history, culture, and forced exodus of Middle Eastern and North African Jewish communities in the second half of the 20th century. Using extensive testimony of refugees from Egypt, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, and Morocco the film recounts the stories - of joy and suffering - that nearly one million individuals have carried with them for so long. The film weaves personal stories with dramatic archival footage of rescue missions, historic images of exodus and resettlement, and analyses by contemporary scholars to tell the story of how and why the Jewish population in the Middle East and North Africa declined from one million in 1945 to several thousand today. "The Forgotten Refugees" has helped raise awareness about this important period of Jewish and world history; an issue which has been tragically ignored in the media, world politics, and educational programs. On June 19, 2007, a fifteen minute version of The Forgotten Refugees was shown before the United States Congressional Human Rights Caucus, which convened for a special hearing on the mass violations of human rights of Jews under Islamic regimes in Arab Countries throughout North Africa, the Middle East, and the Gulf Region. On March 31, 2008, the first-ever Resolution recognizing the rights of "The Forgotten Refugees" was adopted by the United States House of Representatives. The Resolution asks the President to ensure ...

Toronto Travel: Beaches International Jazz Festival 2009
Duration : 151 Seconds

Toronto summers are highlighted by the myriad of street festivals that happen in different neighbourhoods and celebrate food, music and culture. Several times now I have had visitors in town at the end of July who I ended up taking to the annual Beaches International Jazz Festival. It's been a hit every time. It was no different this year. On July 24 and 25, 2009 I partook of the Beaches Jazz Fest and on the second day my 5 European guests joined me in the 3 km long street party. More then 50 bands had been lined up, dozens and dozens of food stalls and souvenir stands lined the street, and about a million people showed up to enjoy the music. The atmosphere was phenomenal, and my visitors were blown away by the huge selection of high-quality live music and the ambience. As always, I looked for some of my personal favourites: the Imbayakunas and Puente del Diablo entertained the crowed with Latin and Spanish rhythms. I stood in line for ½ hour to grab a front row spot to see talented master violinist Dr. Draw and his diabolically brilliant performance in front of a raptured crowd. Late at night, on my way eastwards to get home, I got drawn in by the alluring rhythms of the Rob Christian Band and its new lead singer (whose name I never got) who, with his improvised lyrics and catchy melody, got Torontonians swaying, tapping their feet and even jumping and clapping in utter exuberance. No doubt everybody had an awesome time.

Lauréat 2011 prix Droits de l'Homme "L. Trarieux" Fethi Terbil réitère ses propos négationistes
Duration : 154 Seconds
