Goldman Sachs was reportedly entrusted with $1.3 billion and managed to turn it into $25.1 million, or a mere two per cent of the original sum, through poor management. Settlement of the conflict was never finalized. Societe Generale did a little better, wasting just 72 per cent of the LIA's investment. The French bank convinced the LIA to buy its own shares for some $1 billion a month after the actions of the rogue trader Jerome Kerviel led to a 5 billion-euro loss. After the scandal, SocGen's shares plunged. After the civil war erupted in Libya, all the national assets in foreign banks were frozen. Washington said the money will eventually go to the rebels. According to RT's financial expert Max Keiser, what happened to Muammar Gaddafi's funds is just another example of banking terrorism. "The banks are financial terrorists," he said. "Everything that they touch they turn to some kind of act of larceny or accounting fraud and this is how they pay themselves US$140 billion ...

You and I all know what the "REAL" crime was here. Gaddafi's biggest "CRIME" was a government issued value based currency, the Gold Dinar... which was a major threat to the power and wealth of private central bankers who love to loan out the public currency at interest. Remember, the United States fought a revolution to free itself from that very system. When the privately owned bank of England lobbied King George the III to pass the currency act which ordered all commerce in the colonies to use bank notes borrowed at interest from the bank of England. The resulting stripping of wealth from the American people was the major reason for the American revolution. Gaddafi did not want to involve himself with dollars, or the IMF, so he put together a government issued value based currency based on gold and it was so effective it attracted other nations in Africa... they wanted to switch out of the USD. The reason he was so hated was that he did all the building, water works and the rest of it for his people without putting them into debt to the private central banks. Thats why he had to be destroyed... that is why they had to destroy all of Libya so they are going to have to borrow from the international banks to build back back up what they already had before. Its all about keeping people slaves to debt. The Libyan people understand, they don't support the bankers either, they are also debt slaves. The entire world is one big pool of debt slaves finally waking up and realizing ...

The bank structured a $1bn note repayable to Libya's fund in 2018, which is adjusted to reflect the equivalent performance of the bank's shares, the Financial Times reports. The deal, which is the Libyan Investment Authority's largest investment in five years, has lost 72% of its value by the middle of 2010. Although SocGen declined to comment, it said it deals with many sovereign funds in compliance with rules and regulations. Libya made the deal with SocGen in March 2008, shortly after trader Jerome Kerviel was revealed to have made €50bn of rogue trades, costing the bank €5bn. The LIA had sales pitch documents which said SocGen was a potential takeover target following the Kerviel scandal and was therefore "highly undervalued." Other investment banks including Goldman Sachs and HSBC have also been revealed to have made large deals with the Libyan Investment Authority. Goldman Sachs created a $1.2bn equity and currency derivatives portfolio which has lost 98.5% of its value as of the end of June last year, the FT reports.
