| | Liberian War - Color of Blood Duration : 91 Seconds Excerpt from Memoirs of a War-Child - a poetry collection. Since surviving a blood-spattered civil war in Liberia, West Africa, Meaza --Work has slowly begun to revisit the close kept memories that have been tucked away since the early age of eight. Through poetry, Memoirs of a War-Child examines the emotions that war survivors feel both during and after the blood dries up and the thousands of bodies are buried. While reading the passages, it is clear that war to Meaza-Work is literal as in the 8 year old that had to walk by dead bodies on the side of the streets, but it also is interpreted figuratively as in the boyfriend that took everything that she had and still told her she wasn't good enough. | | Literacy Students Share Their Poems Duration : 266 Seconds The Waterways Project of Ten Penny Players worked with the Brooklyn Literacy Program (Frederick Douglass Center) to provide an arts based learning experience that would advance the reading and writing skills for young adults. Many of the participants were immigrants to the country, some fleeing war in Liberia and Sierra Leone. They arrived in New York without the benefit of an earlier education, and were not offered placement in the regular community high schools.
