| | On Lebanese blogger: Nasri Atallah Duration : 134 Seconds www.ourmaninbeirut.com I just discovered Nasri Atallah while dragging myself around ABC Achrafieh in between classes at AUST. I was at Virgin Megastore (another racist institution to be talked about later) and was browsing the 'New Releases' section, when I found this amazing local literary talent. His book and blog "Our Man in Beirut" is a personal social critique of Lebanese society as he see is. His writing style is beautiful, I am jealous! | | Lebanon: A Spring in the Desert - Trailer Duration : 601 Seconds This trailer presents the first 10 minutes of the CRTN - documentary "A Spring in the Desert." Production Date: 2000 Duration: 16' 37'' Copyright : CRTN Language: English, Hungarian, German Executive Producer: Mark Riedemann Director: Agnieszka Dzieduszycka The documentary deals with the realities of the Christian flight from Lebanon. In 30 years Christians, through economic hardship and the rise of Muslim fundamentalism, have left Lebanon, the cradle of Christianity, falling from a majority of over 50% to 45% of the population. The result for the Church is dramatic and threatens its very presence and position not only within Lebanese society, but also the missionary activity for which the Leba-nese Church is famous throughout the Middle East. Despite this, there is a remarkable flourishing of vocations to the priesthood and religious life in both male and female, Catholic and Orthodox congregations giving hope to the local Church. | | Heinrich-Böll-Foundation Office Beirut (Lebanon) Duration : 375 Seconds boell-meo.org The international work of the Heinrich Böll Foundation is geared towards seeking strategic partnerships with others who share our values. We believe in the inherent value of broadening and facilitating active participation of citizens, equal access and rights beyond gender and ethnic or religious affiliations, resolving conflicts peacefully and keeping development sustainable - in Germany and anywhere else in the world. Yet, we are aware that positive change in the direction of these core values has to set out from the realities of the societies we are working with, and that strategies aimed at achieving sweeping changes in a short period of time are often unsustainable or even counterproductive. Moreover, we believe that citizens and social actors are the primary and most important reference point when it comes to the priorities and the pace of such change in their own societies. Hence, our approach focuses on engaging with civil society organizations, civic initiatives and political activists throughout the region. Exchange and dialogue with these partners is the main inspiration for the priorities of our program. Likewise, a significant part of our actual work is lending support - through networking, facilitation and funding - to initiatives and projects conceived by our partners, in response to what they perceive as the pressing needs of their societies. For any foreign organization, coming to the Middle East to promote an agenda for change means ...
