It hosts 32 species of wild mammals, 200 species of birds, and 500 species of plants. The cedar forests of Lebanon enjoy the unique distinction as the oldest documented forests in history. The cedars were important enough in the history of man to be traceable to the very earliest written records, that of the Sumerians in the third millennium BC. In the ancient Sumerian story, The Epic of Gilgamesh, one of the oldest pieces of literature in the world, the Cedars feature prominently. Gilgamesh has since been recognized as King Gilgamesh of history and in probability visited Mount Lebanon. Some cedars are estimated to be 2000 years old. We would like to thank my Dad and Bashir for making this possible and for their wonderful hospitality and kindness. We love you. We confess before the fair God That we injured you, and we tired you That we burned you, and made you cry And we burdened you with our insurrections O Beirut The world without you won't suffice us We now realize your roots are deep inside us, We now realize what offense we've perpetrated Rise from under the rubble Like a flower of Almond in April Get over your sorrow Since revolution grows in the wounds of grief Rise in honor of the forests, Rise in honor of the rivers Rise in honor of humankind Rise, O Beirut! Li Beirut (lyrics): --------------------- A greeting from my heart to Beirut kisses to the sea and to the houses to a rock, which is like an old sailor's face She is made from the people's soul..from wine She is from his sweat...a bread and Jasmin So how does her taste become? A taste of fire and smoke Glory from the ashes to Beirut From the blood of a child carried upon her hand My city has turned out her lamp She shut her door, and became alone in the sky Alone with the night You are mine, you are mine Ah Hug me you are mine You are my flag, tomorrow stone And a travel's waves The wounds of my people have blossomed And mothers tears You are mine ... | | President Ahmadinejad and Michel Suleiman in Press Conference in Lebanon 2010 part 1 Duration : 892 Seconds President Ahmadinejad and Michel Suleiman in Press Conference in Lebanon 2010 part 1 President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has described Lebanon as a land of culture, literature, scholarship and friendship. He said the nation has managed to reverse the enemies' one-way trend of affairs to the benefit of regional nations. Making the remarks during his joint press conference with Labanon's President Michel Suleiman, he expressed gratitude to the Lebanese president, prime minister, parliament speaker and nation for seizing the opportunity provided by his visit to their country to showcase their unity, fraternity, power and charisma. He said the praiseworthy resistance of the Lebanese nation and army in the face of the Zionist regime is a source of pride for all justice-seeking and freedom-loving people in the region. Pointing to the historic relations between Iran and Lebanon, the president further stressed that there were too many common points between the two nations to ignore given the fact that both nations were friends, monotheist and justice-seeking and had many identical enemies and friends. Dr.Ahmadinejad noted that he had held good talks with President Suleiman, saying that the two nations see no restrictions on expanding ties since they were both willing to promote relations in all areas.
