The Freedom Monument was erected in 1935 in Riga, Latvia to honor the fallen soldiers of the Latvian War of Independence in the early 20th century. This masterful sculpture of travertine, copper, and travertine stands a magnanimous 138 feet high and is adorned with stately sculptures and bas reliefs. This structure is one of the most prolific monuments in the Baltics and can be found in the center of the nation's capital on the aptly named Freedom Blvd. The prolific phrase "For Fatherland and Freedom" is delicately inscribed on the concrete base of this symbol of pride. Inclimate weather, pollution, and unskilled past restorations have worn away elements of this structure, meaning that repairs is now required every two years. The three stars held by the figure of Liberty represent the three constitutional districts of Latvia: Kurzeme, Vidzeme and Latgale.

This was my first time going to latvia and it was amazing experience, i usually go away and feel out of place but i felt right at home here, well i guess my husband did as hes from here maybe thats way. the place is beautiful, so much to do here, weather is amazing winter and summer. definately recommend going its a great experience.
