We got lucky.....our time in Vientiane coincided with the That Luang Festival...the largest festival in Laos. The That Luang temple is a giant golden stupa, and is the most sacred temple/stupa in Laos, and during this festival, thousands of monks from all over Laos come to give/receive alms and prayers. Boun Ban Fai (Rocket Festival) is a traditional ritual for rain-making, as farmers are eagerly waiting for rainfall for rice planting. On a sunny day of 22 May 2011, a festival was held in Na Xon Village located at 50 km away from Vientiane Capital to the south along the Route 13. The same festivals can be seen anywhere else all over Laos, even in small villages, around the middle of May, beginning of rainy season. Festival dates and places are determined by villagers depending on circumstances of each village. We recommend you to arrange your trip in advance by getting information from local people or travel agencies. Villagers welcome you to join the festival.

28 ième Festival d'été Lao, le samedi 17 juillet 2010 à Ste-Julienne, Québec, Canada.
