High-Ranking North Korean Defector Buried
Duration : 100 Seconds

The highest ranking North Korean defector has been laid to rest. He who helped develop North Korea's socialist ideology, but defected to South Korea in 1997. Hundreds came to pay their last respects, including the former president of South Korea. The funeral of North Korea's highest-ranking defector to the South drew mourners in the hundreds. Former South Korean president Kim Yong-sam was among them. Some 300 fellow defectors from North Korea also paid their last respects to Hwang Jang-yop. Many of them regarded him as a figurehead. [Park Sang-hak, North Korean Defector]: "Mr. Hwang was a father and mentor to North Korean defectors. He was a mentor and leader, especially for the groups of North Korean defectors working for human rights." [Cho Myung-chul, North Korean Defector]: "The shameless Kim Jong-il conducted another hereditary transmission of power to lengthen the regime's lifespan. On the day when North Korea did that, when our mentor died, the hope of North Koreans and our hope died, too." 87-year-old Hwang was found dead at his home on Oct. 10, just before the North marked the 65th anniversary of its founding. He appears to have died from a heart attack. Police say there's nothing to make them believe he was murdered, although Hwang received repeated death threats since defecting to Seoul 13 years ago. He was a key architect of North Korea's socialist ideology but became harshly critical of its leader Kim Jong-il after he defected.

♫ North Korea National Anthem ♫
Duration : 96 Seconds

North Korea (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) shares borders with China, the Sea of Japan, the Yellow Sea and the demilitarised zone (separating it from the Republic of Korea). North Korea's capital, Pyongyang, was completely rebuilt after the Korean War as a city of wide avenues, neatly designed parks and enormous marble public buildings. The Palace of Culture, the Grand Theatre, the Juche Tower and the Ongrui Restaurant epitomise the Korean variant of Communist architecture. The Gates of Pyongyang and the Arch of Triumph (built in honour of Kim Il-Sung's 70th birthday) are particularly impressive. ********** This description is from WORLDTRAVELGUIDE. Kim's Nuclear Gamble Part 1 of 6 History, Sociopolitical, Technology Documentary narrated by Will Lyman and published by PBS broadcasted as part of PBS Frontline series in 2003 - English narration www.pbs.org www.pbs.org "Kim's Nuclear Gamble" traces the highs, lows, and crisis points during the past decade of US-North Korean relations, beginning with Pyongyang's announcement in 1994 that it planned to reprocess fuel from its nuclear reactor at Yongbyon -- a move that would have given North Korea enough plutonium to make five to six nuclear bombs. "We were willing to risk war," former US Secretary of Defense William Perry tells FRONTLINE. "We seriously considered solving the problem directly by simply striking the reactor and processor at Yongbyon." Following the intervention of former President Jimmy Carter, however, negotiations resumed and ultimately resulted in a deal that became known as the Agreed Framework. North Korea pledged to shut down its nuclear reactor, and in return, the United States promised to pay for and deliver 500000 metric tons of heavy fuel oil each year until the construction of two light-water reactors -- designed to make proliferation more difficult -- was complete. However, former US officials concede that while North Korea fulfilled its promise to properly shut down the reactor, the United States showed less enthusiasm for fulfilling its half of the agreement. Late shipments of the promised oil and slow construction on the light-water reactors ...

The mangas, videogames, political history, and computer electronics played a huge role in our lives. And this video is considered to be a tribute, I guess, for the following reasons. 1. Japan has one of the most powerful economies in the world and one of the most powerful empires in the days of feudalism. 2. Japan has the most engaging culture. 3. Japan is one of the only 1st world nations in the Eastern world. 4. Japan is the shit!
