Democratic People's Republic of North Korea (anti-DPRK comments prohibitied)
Duration : 280 Seconds

'As the leader said, the masses of the people have now emerged as masters of history, masters of revolution and construction, and are transforming the world more and more as they desire. The working people including the working class are standing firmly in the central place of the historical development of our time. Hundreds of millions of people who have long suffered class and national oppression and exploitation are vigorously advancing on the road of sovereignty and independence and social progress and playing a greater role in shaping the destiny of humanity and the future of the world. Because of this grand forward movement of our time capitalism and imperialism, which has grown fat and on the blood and sweat of the working masses and lorded it over their destiny for centuries, is precipitating irreversibly into bankruptcy and towards its downfall, deep into the grave of history. The masses of the people who have become legitimate masters of their own destiny are transforming the world and creating a new history of mankind in accordance with their aspirations. This is the basic trend of modern history which no force can ever stop.' "On the Juche Idea" Kim Jong IL www1.korea-np.co.jp

Teaching in Korea: North Korea
Duration : 204 Seconds

When discussing the topic of teaching in Korea, a question I often get is, Are you teaching in North or South Korea? I sometimes giggle to myself what I hear that question, but then respond, South Korea. What usually follows is this, Is it safe there? Are you afraid that North Korea will attack and that there will be another war? The latter is a valid question, since most of my friends and contacts are from the United States and the media there blows things enormously out of proportion. Couple that with political machines that tend to keep the people in the dark and play on their fears, many dont know the history of the Koreas or what the true state of affairs are here. To begin with, North and South Korea are still at war. The 1950-1953 conflict never officially ended in a peace treaty, but rather an armistice or cease-fire. Since then, the United Nations and the South Korean military have been on alert and routinely practice drills that would repel any would-be invasion from the North. From time to time, there have been exchanges of fire (aka gun fights) between the two countries in and around the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) and in the West Sea. In fact, the most recent exchange of combat related fire took place November 9, 2009. Thats right, only a few days ago (as of this writing). What happened is that a North Korea naval vessel approached and may have crossed the NLL (Norther Limit Line the border that extends from the land into the sea and separates the two countries ...

The History of the Filipino in Korea
Duration : 632 Seconds

Summer of 1950 sparked the beginning of the Korean war. As a police action, the United Nations called upon the help of 16 nations to aid South Korea in battle. The 8th country to answer this call was the Philippines. Since then the Philippines, together with South Korea have been together in promotion of peace, prosperity, and economic stability. A bond strengthened by the war, and remembered today by the new generation.

North Korea | Kim's Nuclear Gamble Part 1 of 6
Duration : 584 Seconds

Kim's Nuclear Gamble Part 1 of 6 History, Sociopolitical, Technology Documentary narrated by Will Lyman and published by PBS broadcasted as part of PBS Frontline series in 2003 - English narration www.pbs.org www.pbs.org "Kim's Nuclear Gamble" traces the highs, lows, and crisis points during the past decade of US-North Korean relations, beginning with Pyongyang's announcement in 1994 that it planned to reprocess fuel from its nuclear reactor at Yongbyon -- a move that would have given North Korea enough plutonium to make five to six nuclear bombs. "We were willing to risk war," former US Secretary of Defense William Perry tells FRONTLINE. "We seriously considered solving the problem directly by simply striking the reactor and processor at Yongbyon." Following the intervention of former President Jimmy Carter, however, negotiations resumed and ultimately resulted in a deal that became known as the Agreed Framework. North Korea pledged to shut down its nuclear reactor, and in return, the United States promised to pay for and deliver 500000 metric tons of heavy fuel oil each year until the construction of two light-water reactors -- designed to make proliferation more difficult -- was complete. However, former US officials concede that while North Korea fulfilled its promise to properly shut down the reactor, the United States showed less enthusiasm for fulfilling its half of the agreement. Late shipments of the promised oil and slow construction on the light-water reactors ...

Mass Killings in Korea: Hidden History of 1950 (2/2) -Bodo League massacre
Duration : 149 Seconds

The truth has revealed! "Forensic Finds Add Substance to Claims of War Atrocities"-- Stone, Science 24 July 2009: 374-375 www.sciencemag.org japanfocus.org The alleged-communist prisoners including dozens of innocent children were shot to death by their own South Korean government in the summer of 1950 during the Korean war. Although most of them were not associated with communism, at least 100000 citizens were executed for the suspicion of supporting it, in this genocide. "South Korea's Truth and Reconciliation Commission is piecing together long suppressed accounts of mass killings early in the Korean War - executions of South Korean leftists and supposed sympathizers by their own US allied gov, and killings of South Korean refugees by the US military. President Syngman Rhee's right-wing goverment slaughtered these detainees, most without charge or trial, rather than risk having them freed by the invading North Korean army." AP

Arirang mass games 2011 in North Korea, a long summary
Duration : 1397 Seconds

I visited DPRK (North Korea) in August 2011. Here is a (long) summary of the arirang mass games, a show of more than 100.000 performers in the biggest stadium in the world, showing the modern history of North Korea. The performers are "normal" North Korean citizens training for several month to achieve a degree of perfection difficult to imagine in other countries. As it is very difficult to find on internet, I added comments about the symbols and the meaning of the arirang mass games. But I still need your help. If you can read Korean or Chinese, help me translate the backgrounds on misterjo.imgur.com I will add subtitles and your names to the ending credits of the video. To see more of North Korea, go to www.flickr.com or follow my pictures on www.facebook.com Thanks for watching.
