Terry and Michael had arrived in Africa on May 28, five days before commencement of their Kilimanjaro climb, to allow sufficient time to get over jet lag and to become acclimatized. The time was spent on safari in the area of Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park, finally ending up on June 1 at the Hotel in Moshi where gear was sorted out and they readied themselves for the challenge ahead. Before sunset, Felix, the gentleman who would be their guide and protector for the next six days, arrived. Felix is fifty-three years old and has plenty of mountain experience ... a great comfort. Felix asked if they had this-and-that kind of equipment and seemed to be pleased Terry and Michael were well equipped. They would meet again in the morning. Michael and Terry toasted the mountain with their last beer (until their return) ... suitably the beers name was "Kilimanjaro". June 2 It was a morning of nervous excitement. Felix arrived shortly after breakfast. Terry and Michael would meet the rest of the crew at the park gate. Joining Terry and Michael on their climb would be a seven person support team ... Felix, their guide, an assistant guide (needed, should Terry or Michael have to come down while the other continued), a cook and four porters (one which would also serve as a waiter). The Serengeti ecosystem is a geographical region located in north-western Tanzania and extends to south-western Kenya between latitudes 1 and 3 S and longitudes 34 and 36 E. It spans some 30000 km2. The Serengeti hosts the largest and longest overland migration in the world, a semi-annual occurrence. This migration is one of the ten natural travel wonders of the world. The region contains several national parks and game reserves. Serengeti is derived from the Maasai language, Maa; specifically, "Serengit" meaning "Endless Plains". Approximately 70 larger mammal and some 500 avifauna species are found there. This high diversity in terms of species is a function of diverse habitats ranging from riverine forests, swamps, kopjes, grasslands and woodlands. Blue Wildebeests, gazelles, zebras and buffalos are some of the commonly found large mammals in the region. Around October, nearly 2 million herbivores travel from the northern hills toward the southern plains, crossing the Mara River, in pursuit of the rains. In April, they then return to the north through the west, once again crossing the Mara River. This phenomenon is sometimes called the Circular Migration. Over 250000 wildebeest alone will die along the journey from Tanzania to Masai Mara Reserve in upper Kenya, a total of 500 miles. Death is often caused by injury, exhaustion, or predation. President Mwai Kibaki is set to travel to Eldoret for a political event organized and hosted by suspended higher education minister William Ruto. Ruto and some 15 members of parliament landed in Eldoret Thursday afternoon in a police helicopter. And as NTV's Jamilla Mohammed reports, the event is laden with heavy political undertones as it comes at the summit of major fallout between Ruto and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The photographers ongoing challenge is to encapsulate lifes experiences in a rectangular, twodimensional form. In reality, of course, we perceive the visual world as an endlessly unfolding synthesis of images, in which pieces come together and then disperse as our eyes dart around and we move through time and space. This long photograph of Kitengela Road here captures the hustle and bustle of Nairobi's Langata neighbourhood in a naturalistic, unposed way, giving the viewer the illusion of walking down the road. Steve Bloom started at the Hotel Hilton at the far end on the right, and moved along to the Jeddy Hair Salon, taking a photograph every four paces. The resulting images were painstakingly stitched together. As the eye moves along the photograph, the viewpoint changes continually, as if the viewer is physically moving down the road. Some of the traders, such as the knife sharpener, are seen repeatedly, going about their business in different parts of the road at different times. This image opposes the 'decisive moment' approach to photography, and is more cinematic in its structure.
