People in Kenya love to dance. Every tribe in Kenyan society has their own style of music and ways to dance. Apart from the many traditional styles of music and dancing in Kenyan society Western influences are more and more visible. Through MTV and the Internet people hear about salsa, rock and Western hiphop. Especially in the big cities young people make their way to clubs offering all these kinds of music to dance on. Hiphop is very rapidly becoming on of the most popular genres of music in Kenya. Not only music but the whole of hiphop culture is being picked up by the youth. I heard about a school for breakdancing set up by kids in Buru Buru, one of the better looking suburbs at the Eastern side of Nairobi. Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan under the guidance of Acharya Swamishree puts great emphasis on the teachings of Lord Swaminarayan, ie treating each and every being as equal in the eyes of the Lord and assisting the less fortunate in the society. During His visit to Nairobi, Kenya, a charitable event was hosted on 16th January 2012 by Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Sansthan, Shree Swaminarayan Temple Nairobi. This noble cause was graced by the presence of His Divine Holiness Acharya Swamishree and the Hon. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, the Vice President of Kenya as the chief guest of the occassion. The chief guest was heartily welcomed by HH Swamibapa Pipe Band and led him to the sihashan and gave him a guard of honour. In his speech, he asked for HDH Acharya Swamishree to bless and guide him in serving the citizens of Kenya. The Safaricom Foundation and KCB Foundation is leading a coalition of corporate Kenya and media in launching a massive fund-raising effort aimed at reversing the suffering of an estimated 3.5 million Kenyans faced with starvation. Dubbed KENYANS for KENYA and intended to raise over Sh500 million, in four weeks. The initiative brings together a number of organizations among them Safaricom Foundation, KCB Foundation and the country's leading media houses operating under the umbrella of the Media Owners Association (MOA). The effort will be administered by relief agency Kenya Red Cross Society.
