On Thursday, we reported exclusively on suspect activities taking place within the compound of the Holy Ghost Coptic Church based in the lakeside city of Kisumu. our investigative team discovered that some of the dwellers in the compound were in chains as part of a curious practice by the church headed by the self-styled John Pesa who is also referred to as the Holy father by his followers. The spotlight is on the government, specifically its procedures around the registration of religious groups. We also reports on the unchecked explosion of faith based organisations that have seen more than 10000 groups ending up in the official registers as churches. For many, the Biblical "Promised Land" is thought be somewhere in the Middle East. But for one of Africa's smallest and most mysterious religious groups, the Land of Milk and Honey is actually located in the vicinity of Kenya's capital, Nairobi. The Gospel of God Church was founded by a small group of Zimbabweans in the 1930s, who made the pilgrimage to Kenya as a religious quest. Their descendants still live and worship there today -- with no official status in Kenya, but driven by a closely-guarded religious mission.
