"Fashion for Peace" showcases the best of Kenyan talent and raises funds for a good cause — the people displaced from last year's Kenyan post-election violence. [Patricia Mbela, Fashion Designer]: "Election violence last year, so it's got splatters of blood, to signify people who died, and it's on strategic places. And also, like the arrow heads, because a lot of people were killed with pangas and machetes, arrows…So I used the arrow heads to decorate the clothes." Designer Kofi Ansah has been showcasing his collections worldwide with great success, and is proud to be part of this Festival for African Fashion and Arts (FAFA). [Kofi Ansah, Fashion Designer]: "I think African fashion is strong, do I need to tell you, you saw what we can do. I showed at couture shows, and I took them by storm. And I showed in Brussels at the EU, and it was sensational. So I thought, let me do it in Africa. And this is for us by us." The Festival for African Fashion and Arts plans to make "Fashion for Peace" an annual event and wants it to be part of the mainstream Kenyan fashion. [Thierry Olivera, FAFA Board Member]: "For us it's always been about peace, because we started off last year, after the clashes in Kenya. And I think that it was worth pursuing given the actual reality of what's happening on the ground, with the displaced people. And as you know, all the proceeds are going to be with all those people to help them out, so I think that we found that it's a worthy cause ...

This programme now supports over 7000 women, who have a strong desire to improve their lives. Through the Programme's extensive network, some of the poorest people in the world now have access to a job. The income earned enables children to attend school. It pays for medical expenses. It ensures other basic needs can be met. All those involved in Vivienne Westwood's Ethical Fashion Africa collection are empowered by the pride they take in their work and the new skills learnt. The aim is that many will start their own companies and train the next generation of skilled workers, raising the standard of living in one of the world's most fragile economies.
