Kazakh National Instrument- Kobyz
Duration : 101 Seconds

The Kobyz (Kazakh: қобыз) or kyl-kobyz is an ancient Kazakh string instrument (chordophone) of the type known as a bowed lyre. It has two strings made of horsehair. The resonating cavity is usually covered with goat leather. Traditionally kobyzes were sacred instruments, owned by shamans and bakses (traditional spiritual medics). In the 1930s, when the first folk instrument orchestras were established in the Soviet republic of Kazakhstan, a new kind of kobyz came into existence. It now had four metallic strings and thus became closer to a violin. Such a modernized kobyz can be used to play both Kazakh music and the most complicated works of violin literature. One of the few western musicians to use the kobyz is Trefor Goronwy. Performed by Janar Abenova.

Railya
Duration : 237 Seconds

"I am stateless." Railya Abulkhanova, 36, was born and raised in a family of five in the former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan and was studying in Russia when the Soviet Union collapsed, leaving her citizenship in question. She surrendered her permanent registration card in Kazakhstan upon leaving to study in Russia. A subsequent application for naturalization in neighboring Uzbekistan, based on her work there as a university professor, failed as well. In 2008, she applied for papers in Russia but later withdrew them when she married a French national and moved with him to France. She is now living in Lille as the wife of a French citizen but without a passport. She is stateless. Because of her lack of naturalization papers, Railya says she has been unable to find work in her chosen fields despite possessing a PhD, eight years teaching experience and fluency in six languages including French. She has worked as a professor of languages and French Literature and is the author school texts in Uzbekistan.

861-1351 About Kobyz: This instrument's lot has been a hard one. Kobyz can be named as an original carrier of ethnic history of the Kazaks presented by the epic literature and instrumental music. However, this did not protect it from persecutions. Initially, kobyz was the instrument of shamans (baqsy), and it was this circumstance that became a convenient reason for withdrawing it from the new built civilized world "as a vestige of the dark past", and thus "condemning it to disappearance. ...more on kobyz: www.asylmura.kz www.answers.com My qyl-qobyz favourites: www.youtube.com www.youtube.com www.youtube.com Qobyz's close relative-saz: www.youtube.com www.youtube.com

Der Trailer zu dem Videotagebuch auf meiner Seite. lilatraum.de Danke an die Würstchen-Crew! English Subtitles: Erasmus Dream Detector Once upon a time there was a man called Erasmus. He lived a very long time ago in Rotterdam. That is where his name comes from. He was interested in philosophy, language, literature, god and the world and to educate himself he travelled a lot. His great strength was the connection of all his interests. My name is Lilia. My friends call me Lila. I was born in Siberia, grew up in Kazakhstan -- so I'm from Russia. Now I'm living in Germany and my next target is France. The country of fashion, de la baguette... I am going to taste all possible kinds of French cheese! I am also interested in other things, such as going on a mushroom foray, taekwondo, turtles, music. I just want to go to France! Thanks to Erasmus-Program I can go to one of the cities. I applied to 10 cities. Already as a child Erasmus Desiderius participated in music classes. His vocal teacher was Jacob Obrecht from Utrecht. I already found my vocal master, his name is Martin Wölfel. He is teaching vocals at the Robert-Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. I am studying sound and video engineering at the Institute of Music and Media in Düsseldorf. It is a program of study where you can connect your musical side (for me it is classical voice) with your technical side. So you can study sound studio technique, video technique... But in this year thanks Erasmus I have the possibility ...

Russian is the most geographically widespread language of Eurasia and the most widely spoken Slavic language.[172] Russian belongs to the Indo-European language family and is one of the living members of the East Slavic languages; the others being Belarusian and Ukrainian (and possibly Rusyn). Written examples of Old East Slavic (Old Russian) are attested from the 10th century onwards.[173] Over a quarter of the world's scientific literature is published in Russian. Russian is also applied as a means of coding and storage of universal knowledge—6070% of all world information is published in the English and Russian languages.[174] The language is one of the six official languages of the United Nations.
