BJARKE INGELS - National Library in Astana, Kazakhstan
Duration : 91 Seconds

www.facebook.com Invited as one of five pre-selected architect led teams, BIG was awarded first prize in an open international design competition which included 19 entrants among others Lord Norman Foster and Zaha Hadid. The design was hailed as being both modern and rational and anchored in a classical vocabulary of traditional libraries. The circular organisation of the archive at its inner core combines the clarity of a linear organisation with the convenience of an infinite loop.

Astana city, Kazakhstan 2011 / Астана Казахстан
Duration : 312 Seconds

Astana (Kazakh: Астана / Astana / أستانا), formerly known as Akmola (Kazakh: Ақмола / Aqmola, until 1998), Tselinograd (Russian: Целиноград, until 1992) and Akmolinsk (Russian: Акмолинск, until 1961), is the capital and second largest city (after Almaty) of Kazakhstan, with an officially estimated population of 708794 as of 1 August 2010. It is located in the north-central portion of Kazakhstan, within Akmola Province, though administrated separately from the province as a federal city area. Town planning Astana can be divided largely into a few different areas. North of the railway line, which crosses Astana in an east-west direction, are industrial and poorer residential areas. Between the railway line and the river Ishim is the city center, where at present intense building activity is occurring. To the west and east are more elevated residential areas with parks and the new area of government administration to the south of the Ishim. Here many large building projects are underway; for example, the construction of a diplomat quarter, and a variety of different government buildings. By 2030, these quarters are to be completed. The original plans for the new Astana were drawn up by the late Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa. Astana's current chief planner, Vladimir Laptev, wants to build a Berlin in a Eurasian style. He has stated that a purely administrative capital such as Canberra is not one of his goals. Architecture The old buildings that remained from the Soviet ...

Kazakhstan Speech Communication
Duration : 334 Seconds

In many American minds this is Kazakhstan (video). I am going to show you the real Kazakhstan with its history, culture, great nature, and amazing architecture. Kazakhstan is a country in the heart of Eurasia. It's bordered by Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. It's the ninth largest territory in the world and the world's largest landlocked country with many different types of nature. Kazakhstan has a vast flat steppe extending from the Volga in the west to the Altai Mountains in the east and from the plains of western Siberia in the north to oases and deserts of Central Asia in the south. Kazakhstan's history goes back thousands of years; I will give you a brief overview. The indigenous Kazakhs were a nomadic Turkic people who belonged to several divisions of Kazakh hordes. Their tribes fell under Mongol rule in the 13th century and they were dominated by Tartar khanates until the area was conquered by Russia in the 18th century. During the USSR Kazakhstan became agricultural and industrial center. The Soviet Union built the largest space center in the world called Baikonur in Central Kazakhstan, where the first man in space Yuri Gagarin was launched from. Kazakhstan obtained its independence from the collapsing Soviet Union in 1991 and proclaimed its membership in the Commonwealth of Independent States. Now that you have gotten a brief history of Kazakhstan, let us move on to its interesting and rich culture. As nomads Kazakhs lived in yurts, the ...

Astana in HD - Kazakhstan

In this quick HD video of the capital city of Kazakhstan, Astana, we try to give you a little idea of what it is like. Just the fact that it is one of the world's coldest capital cities with temperatures dropping in winter to -40 and slightly beyond is enough to make most travellers think twice. But in the summer months the weather is very pleasant and it has to be one of the most photogenic modern cities in the whole Central Asia region. The video was filmed on 28 April 2011, and you may also be interested to watch the interview with the Interim General Manager of the Radisson Astana Hotel, Mr. Jesper Francl which you can see here: www.asiatraveltips.com You may also be interested in our HD video of Almaty: www.youtube.com www.asiatraveltips.com

Beyond Borat - Kazakhstan
Duration : 1468 Seconds

Nazarbayev re-elected in landslide victory To see more go to www.youtube.com Follow us on Facebook (goo.gl or Twitter (www.twitter.com Sacha Baron Cohen's alter ego 'Borat' was a Hollywood hit. But his portrayal of Kazakhstan as a backward and impoverished country has led the Kazakhs to fight against this damaging misconception. Kazakh film director, Rakishev, who made a film in response to Borat, states, "It's easy to cross the line between a joke and an insult". Over the past twenty years Kazakhstan has slowly risen to become a prosperous nation. President Nazarbayev has aimed to 'modernise' the oil rich country, even building a city from scratch. With cutting edge architecture and glittering shopping malls, his people argue, "he is promoting the Kazakh people to a bright future". Whether his presidency has been democratic or not, many Kazakhis feel he has helped the country progress. Yet a closer look shows a country still hosting profound problems. As the controversial President is sworn back in, can the progress continue? A Film By ABC Australia Distributed By Journeyman Pictures April 2011

Astana- Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Residences
Duration : 46 Seconds

Astana, the new capital of the newly independent Republic of Kazakhstan, is being developed following a 2000 master plan by the Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa inspired by L'Enfant's plan for Washington, DC, with principal government buildings organized around a central mall. Our 60-storey Ritz-Carlton hotel and residences—to be the tallest building in Astana—is sited just off the mall. A grand glazed winter court will be a meeting place visiting dignitaries and diplomats sheltered from the city's climatic extremes. The 114-key hotel will provide banquet rooms and a state ballroom; above, 210 residences include numerous penthouses. The building sets back to reflect the program, rising to a glazed crown that will sparkle in the sunlight by day and glow like a lantern by night

ARCHITECTURE of a TRIAL
Duration : 1281 Seconds

Architecture of a Trial is about a young lady who plays the piano for the last 20 years. She just past all her exams with bravura. But she suffers in her head terribly. She measures herself with the sun. Her heart gets burnt. Her courage falters. She invites me to listen to her piano at the Conservatory in Alma Aty. As she starts playing she says:"Piano is the biggest failure of my life." I decide to look for myself. I listen carefully.. Is it when Error turns into Failure that a trial turns into Trial? There are some errors, never mind but her attitude does not accept error. She is on Trial instead. It is her attitude which makes her feel she is a failure, it is NOT her playing. I could detect no failure but a trail instead. special thanks Conservatory Alma Aty, Kazakhstan School of Massmedia Dinazat Kassimova Khabar Agency Aliya Duisekeyeva Ursula Davatz camera 1+2: Jürg Da Vaz camera 3: Cholpon Tursynova edited by Sándor Gréczi Jürg Da Vaz directed by Jürg Da Vaz filmed on site at the Consevatory in Alma Ata, Kazakhstan. a handmade Da Vaz production©2002 eyeSharpener©
