Ulytau - Adai (studio version)
Duration : 195 Seconds

Kazakhstan ethno-rock project. Ulytau produces its work with a use of an unique combination of musical instruments. First, there is a Dombra- a two stringed Kazakh instrument which apart from traditonal Kazakh melodies can produce a whole range of musical pieces including the masterpieces of the Classical genre. Then there is a Classical Violin which by contrasting with Dombra enthrals the audience with its sounds. Finally there is an Electric Guitar which bridges the East and the West by offering a modern sound. Altogether, Ulytau's work offers a fusion of the Kazakh musical heritage, all time classics and mainstream music with a flair of originality, a sense of style and great professionalism. This is the 1st track from "Jumyr-Kylysh" (2006). Epic.

Manas
Duration : 600 Seconds

UNESCO: Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - 2009 URL: www.unesco.org Description: The Kirgiz ethnic minority in China, concentrated in the Xinjiang region in the west, pride themselves on their descent from the hero Manas, whose life and progeny are celebrated in one of the best-known elements of their oral tradition: the Manas epic. Traditionally sung by a Manaschi without musical accompaniment, epic performances takes place at social gatherings, community celebrations, ceremonies such as weddings and funerals and dedicated concerts. Regional variations abound, but all are characterized by pithy lyrics with phrases that now permeate the everyday language of the people, melodies adapted to the story and characters, and lively parables. The long epic records all the major historic events of greatest importance for the Kirgiz people and crystallizes their traditions and beliefs. The Kirgiz in China and the neighbouring Central Asian countries of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan regard the Manas as a key symbol of their cultural identity and the most important cultural form for public entertainment, the preservation of history, the transmission of knowledge to the young and the summoning of good fortune. One of the three major epics of China, it is both an outstanding artistic creation and an oral encyclopaedia of the Kirgiz people. Karaganda, Караганда, Казахстан.
Duration : 296 Seconds

Karagandy (Kazakh: Қарағанды / Qarağandı), more commonly known by its Russian name Karaganda, (Russian: Караганда, until 1993), is the capital of Karagandy Province in Kazakhstan. It is the fourth most populous city in Kazakhstan, behind Almaty (Alma-Ata), Astana and Shymkent, with a population of 471800 (as of 1 January 2010).[1] In the 1940s up to 70% of the city's inhabitants were ethnic Germans. Most of the ethnic Germans are descendants of Soviet Volga Germans who were collectively deported to Siberia and Kazakhstan on Stalin's order when Hitler invaded Poland. Until the 1950s, many were interned in labor camps, often only due to their heritage. The population of Karaganda fell by 14% from 1989-1999; it was once Kazakhstan's second largest city after Almaty. One hundred thousand people have since emigrated to Germany. There is also a smaller concentration of ethnic Poles. It is the home city of Kazakh World War II hero Nurken Abdirov. A statue in Abdirov's honor is located in the center of the city. Mutant children in Kazakhstan
Duration : 44 Seconds

The Semipalatinsk Test Site (STS or Semipalatinsk-21) was the primary testing venue for the Soviet Union's nuclear weapons. It is located on the steppe in northeast Kazakhstan (then the Kazakh SSR), south of the valley of the Irtysh River. The scientific buildings for the test site were located around 150 km west of the town of Semipalatinsk (later renamed Semey), near the border of East Kazakhstan Province and Pavlodar Province with most of the nuclear tests taking place at various sites further to the west and south, some as far as into Karagandy Province. The Soviet Union conducted 456 nuclear tests at Semipalatinsk from 1949 until 1989 with little regard for their effect on the local people or environment. The full impact of radiation exposure was hidden for many years by Soviet authorities and has only come to light since the test site closed in 1991. The zone has been proposed for UNESCO World Heritage Site learn more at www.thebulletin.org mir24.tv

CalDay: Maurizio Forte
Duration : 5482 Seconds

Biography Dr. Maurizio Forte is Professor of Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts at the University of California, Merced. His research focuses multidisciplinary approachs to the development of virtual heritage, with the goal of integrating technology with field work data from cultural heritage sites. Forte defines "virtual heritage" as digital information derived from a physical site, whether it is an object, monument, territory, or landscape. His work helps build the bridge between global and virtual heritage as constituted by information processes: we communicate what we perceive and learn; the ontology of information is much more important than the technological aspect, because it concerns the cross-cultural and interdisciplinary transmission. In this sense, "virtual heritage" can be said to be an ontology of cultural heritage. It represents more than the physical item because it is able to contextualize the global heritage. This information must be processed both by computer programs but also, and more importantly, by our perceptions, interpretations, knowledge and finally communicated through dissemination. Forte's research begins with the reconstruction of archaeological and ancient landscapes in a virtual format, using digital technologies such as 3d documentation, geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, spatial technologies and open software WEB-VRGIS. Having created a virtual recreation, his efforts are then directed to the epistemology of this ...

Katta Ashula
Duration : 4082 Seconds

UNESCO: Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - 2009 URL: www.unesco.org Description: Katta Ashula (literally big song) is a type of traditional song that forms part of the identity of various peoples of the Ferghana Valley in Uzbekistan, which is also home to Tajiks, Uyghurs and Turks, and of some regions of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. An original genre, Katta Ashula combines performing arts, singing, instrumental music, Eastern poetry and sacred rites. It covers a range of subjects, from love to philosophical and theological concepts of the universe and nature, while leaving some room for improvisation. Transmitted orally from master to pupil from one generation to another during a demanding apprenticeship, it is interpreted by a minimum of two and a maximum of five singers. Nowadays, Katta Ashula is an important expression of Uzbek cultural identity that can promote dialogue between cultures. To keep this tradition viable, festivals, contests and various other activities already organized by the Government of Uzbekistan and the local authorities are to be reinforced through the introduction of programmes for transmitting the tradition to young people and research (creation of a database, organization of conferences, publications, etc.).
