In the ancient downtown area of Amman, I receive a lesson on how to dress as a traditional Jordanian. The shemagh(شماغ) is a versatile and comfortable piece of clothing. Shading you from the sun, keeping you warm when cold and protecting you from the sandstorms that inevitably blow. The thick cotton fabric is soft and inviting. When the shemagh(شماغ) is wrapped with the face covered, I experience a feeling of safety and protection. The distinct red and white pattern denotes that you are Jordanian. I simply cannot get enough of the Jordanian experience. I must be a bedouin at heart.

April 2011 - Las Vegas, NV: Iconic athletes, actors, comedians, and entertainers were on the links for the the 10th Annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational Tournament (MJCI). This is the first time the MJCI is being held in Las Vegas. But nothing was more emotional than when the six-time NBA champion met, 16 year-old Marc Garcia, from Kunkletown, PA, who wants to a ball player when he grows up, and who has wished to meet the star ever since he could speak the words "Michael Jordan." His teary-eyed mother Mercedes Abad and starry-eyed older brother Reuben Garcia were on hand when the two met for the first time; a meeting filled with excitement, joy and surprises. Mercedes was overwhelmed when her son finally had his lifetime wish fullfilled, while Reuben, also an avid Jordan fan, was left speechless. Marc and his brother grew up watching Michael Jordan and collecting his shoes and shirts; and when Marc was in and out of the hospital as a young boy with sickle cell anemia, meeting the star was his only wish. The emotional encounter was also filled with intimate moments with the family learning a little more about the pro-athlete, asking him about favorite workouts, meals, what it feels like to be a world-class athlete, and how the star "jumps so high." Michael told Marc and his family that he was always able to sky-high but that his on court didn't soar till college.
