Today is the 1st of the month. It's December 1st. It's really cold today. My rent is 45000 yen. That's about 500 US dollars. I'll show you what it looks like here. So, these are 10000 yen notes, so that's ten thousand, twenty thousand, thirty thousand, forty thousand and this is a five thousand yen note right here, okay, so that's 45000 yen. So here in Japan we use like the postal system. We can use the postal system as a bank. There are ATM's at the post office. So I keep some money there and I just pay my landlord directly by depositing money directly into her postal account. Anyways, I'm going to go pay my rent at the post office now. Okay, so I'm going outside now. Gas man. Alright, yeah, the post office is really close to my house. I'm just going to cut through a little tiny ally here. Look how narrow this road is here. Isn't that cool. Only in Japan. Okay, I'm almost at the post office. Nothing is going to draw more attention than a big white gaijin holding a camera in your face. If you do not know the local etiquette, it can be easy to offend. In Tokyo, follow these simple rules. The basic concept of society, tatamae, is the face you present to the world, and it is important for a harmonious society. Your honne, your true feelings, are kept hidden. They can come across as quiet, reserved, and do not mind silence. But, you have to remember, this is a very polite society, and you have to be very, very nice. Do not blow your nose in public. Do not point. Do not count your change; the Japanese pride themselves on their honesty. Do not eat in public. Good luck! The number four, shi, is considered to be bad luck, because it also means death. Bowing is the Japanese equivalent to the Western handshake. The degree of the bow depends on the formality. However, foreigners are not expected to bow, unless, they are lucky enough to meet the Emperor. You will notice that shoes are not worn indoors, say at home, at ryokan, even at restaurants. But, if in doubt, follow the locals. Drinking is important in Japanese society for building relationships. This may be the only time you will see the Japanese get a bit rowdy. Drinking age is twenty years of age. Tipping is not expected, but a service charge may be included in some restaurants. This is Yuko, showing you my Tokyo.

Mikuni is famous for its delicious fresh crabs, being close to good fishing grounds. When the snow crab fishing season starts on November 6, many people travel great distances to Mikuni specifically for the crabs.
