I took some videos of various Japanese cars in Tokyo, Japan. Not too many tuner cars because they don't drive around mid-city where I walked around most of the time. I appologize its so shaky. Everything was handheld. I did not add music so you may listen to your own music while watching.

A strange phenomenon occured in the 80s - the birth of the car modding genre "Kaido Racer". Kaido means Highway in Japanese. The idea was to take a regular car and make it colorful, as wildly modded as possible and often as noisy as possible. The modding isnt to make the car better - it is to take a car and turn it into a public offense. The idea was to essentially rebel against the law - the cars are illegally modded with huge tailpipes that often run directly from the engine block, massive spoilers that jut out to the point of being absurd. This modding style was popular around the Tokyo area in the 80s and like most Japanese trends, evntually died out in the larger centers....but trickled into the countryside and remained in small pockets of Japan. This footage was taken from an event that took place in Ibaragi Prefecture in 2007... a countryside province of Japan - nothing but rice fields, simple people and idiots like these guys... These car enthusiasts are usually lower income manual labour countryside types - bricklayers, builders, mechanics and such. "Hicks" would be a suitable term to describe them simply. The premise is to drive up and down the highway making a nuisance of themselves... revving the engine noisily, hanging out the window, driving slowly, swerving all over the road, causing obstructions and being defiant toward the police. According to Genepax, the main feature of the new system is that it uses the company's membrane electrode assembly (MEA), which contains a material capable of breaking down water into hydrogen and oxygen through a chemical reaction. A Japanese venture company, Genepax, has unveiled a car on that runs on water. All it requires is a litre of water. In fact, any kind of water to be exact, whether its river, rain, sea water, or even Japanese tea. Its an electric powered car that runs solely on hydrogen dioxide. "The main characteristic of this car is that no external input is needed. The car will continue to run as long as you have a bottle of water inside for you to add from time to time," said Kiyoshi Hirasawa, Chief Executive Officer of Genepax, after he proudly announced the company's invention. Once water is poured into the water tank at the back of the car, the newly invented energy generator takes out the hydrogen from the water, releases electrons and finally generates electrical power. "We highly recommend our system since it does not require you to build up an infrastructure to recharge your batteries, which is usually the case for most electric cars," said Hirasawa, who is hoping to ...

Japan Car - now on exhibit at the London Science Museum is not your average automobile show. Spectators should be prepared for an innovative encounter with the future of lifestyle and transport. When their proposal for a design museum in Tokyo was turned down, architect Shigeru Ban and designer Kenya Hara came up with the idea of a yearly show which would change in theme and location. The exhibit Japan Car is a fresh statement of how the Japanese consider the interior of the vehicle as a living space. [Shigeru Ban, Architect and Show Creator]: "Cars in Europe are designed as pure transportation means to go from one place to one place as quickly as possible. Instead, we just try to enjoy inside so that is the very different aspect of how car inside, also the space itself and design as a reflection of lifestyle." The Toyota Bb, for example, was designed as a private hideout with an 11-speaker sound system and front seat cushions that can be lowered out of sight from outside viewers. Proving that good things come in small packages, Japanese car manufacturers are also paying attention to environment with climate-conscious hybrids that are more like integrated systems than individual cells. There were a lot of old schoolers. --lot of really cool cars. --only Japanese cars in this vid, but there were plenty of other makes/models. We camped out on Saturday. --got a chance to do touring laps, both, Saturday and Sunday. Towards the end you'll see our Datsun 710 and FB rx-7. Video was being shot from a Corolla TE31. I had to shorten the vid a little bit, so some of the music is out of sync to where it was supposed to be. I already see so much that needs work and I'm already working on it--in the videography department. --hope to bring you more! Enjoy!!

A multiple car crash in Japan has created an estimated £2m of scrap metal. Twelve of the 14 cars involved in the accident near Shimonoseki were supercars - including eight Ferraris, two Mercedes and a Lamborghini. The accident caused £2m of scrap metal (Pic: Kyodo News) Reports suggest the crash happened after a Mercedes was driven on the wrong side of the road on the Chugoku expressway. Japanese newspaper The Daily Yomiuri said 10 people were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The group of drivers was reportedly made up of self-employed "car enthusiasts", who were travelling from Kyushu to Hiroshima. Pictures of the scene show the motorway littered with debris from the damaged cars. Among the vehicles were two Ferrari F430s, two 360 Modenas, two F355s, a Lamborghini Diablo and a Nissan GTR.
