・Hyogo Tourism Association: www.hyogo-tourism.jp ・Himeji Convention & Visitors Bureau: himeji-kanko.jp ・P-CUBE: www.pcube.co.jp ・Clara De Gobert I was born in France and studied Japanese at Louise de Marillac High School in Paris. I've been in Japan for 6 months studying at Kansai Kokusai Gakuin. Since I was 15, I've been interested in the fashion, food, cameras, culture, art and underground culture of Japan and really wanted to come here. I've especially enjoyed seeing the beautiful and interesting cities of Kobe and Kyoto. ・劉 夢莎(ASA) I'm from China. My mother studied translating in Japan and, through that influence, I also became interested in the country. I first came to Japan as an exchange student in my first year of university. I'm currently studying marketing at Kansai Gakuin University. I absolutely love the Kansai region. The people are friendly and interesting. The food in Kansai is also very delicious; Kobe beef, Osaka takoyaki, the ramen in Wakayama but to name a few.

Kabuki Theatre
Duration : 264 Seconds

UNESCO: Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - 2008 URL: www.unesco.org Description: Kabuki is a Japanese traditional theatre form, which originated in the Edo period at the beginning of the seventeenth century and was particularly popular among townspeople. Originally, both men and women acted in Kabuki plays, but eventually only male actors performed the plays: a tradition that has remained to the present day. Male actors specialized in womens roles are called onnagata. Two other major role types are aragoto (rough style) and wagoto (soft style). Kabuki plays are about historical events and moral conflict in relationships of the heart. The actors speak in a monotone voice and are accompanied by traditional instruments. The Kabuki stage is equipped with several gadgets, such as revolving stages and trapdoors through which the actors can appear and disappear. Another speciality of the Kabuki stage is a footbridge (hanamichi) that extends into the audience. Important characteristics of Kabuki theatre include its particular music, costumes, stage devices and props as well as specific plays, language and acting styles, such as the mie, in which the actor holds a characteristic pose to establish his character. Keshÿ, the particular make-up, provides an element of style easily recognizable even by those unfamiliar with the art form. After 1868, when Japan opened to Western influence, actors strove to heighten the reputation of Kabuki among the ...

The Battle of Iwo Jima - Marines remember their heritage
Duration : 264 Seconds

The Battle of Iwo Jima was the only battle in Marine Corps history where more Marines lost their lives than the enemy. Even still, from Feb. 19 to March 26, 1945, Marines fought and bled to secure a valuable assets for the United State's Pacific Fleet. On the fifth day, a contingent from the 28th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine Division, climbed Mount Suribachi and raised an American Flag. The photo of five Marines and a Navy corpsman holding the flag became a symbol of hope for the war effort in the Pacific and the Marine Corps. Twenty-seven Medals of Honor were awarded to American service members for actions on Iwo Jima. The seizure of Iwo Jima eliminated a strong defense near Japan's mainland, and gave the United States a much-needed resupply point in the advance toward Japan.

Documentary 『Reviving Recipes』
Duration : 242 Seconds

Documentary 『Reviving Recipes』 Our Motive Throughout history, farmers have grown crops suited to local environments and of native species, by nurturing and hand-selecting the seeds to carry on a lineage. However in post World War II Japan, agriculture rapidly became mechanized and geared towards mass production through the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. As mechanization asked for crops of identical shape and size, more and more food producers began to purchase F1 hybrid seeds instead of maintaining and handing down traditional and local native cultivars. Situated in the north-east of the Japanese archipelago, Yamagata Prefecture is one of the top rice growers of the country. According to a recent Yamagata University study, over 150 unique native food plants across the prefecture have been recognized. Such heirloom plants can be considered an important form of intellectual property, as they can convey senses such as taste, smell, and touch from generations decades and centuries ago. Yet due to an ageing population of food producers lacking successors, native varieties of food plants are endangered. Through this film, we hope to alert the world to the situation of Japanese heritage crops which farmers have nurtured throughout time. Film Synopsis Yamagata Prefecture is known nationwide for retaining an abundance of heirloom plants. Yet with increasing cross-breeding and less successors to the trade, some native crops are in danger of extinction. At this time ...
