"Welcome to downtown Kingston! ...Mathews Lane to be exact" "Street Side Salon" is a 10 minute Street Side Prod. documentary short film made for my intermediate video production class. The film was entirely produced (written, shot and edited) by me. I filmed on location in Mathews Lane, Kingston, Jamaica over spring break 2010. With "Street Side Salon" I hoped to capture the vibrancy, creativity and energy of downtown Kingston. It is a business place, a living space, and above all a community. A custom active wear line was introduced using the new colours for the standard and barbecue flavours of banana and cassava chips in foil. The founder and director of A Fashion Affair Inc. is Norma Jean Martin - A person who work constantly and persistently on her new projects to bring to us Jamaican fashion, Jamaican music and Jamaican culture by producing these shows in Atlanta to raise funds for needs of our community. These shows in Atlanta are not only a fundraisers but a unique and creative outlet for many of the American people, and has become a highly anticipated annual fundraiser. In an effort to broaden the spectrum of talent and raise the cultural bar to the American & Afro-Caribbean community of all ages, A Fashion Affair Inc. added a dance recital to its fund raising calendar in 2007 when hosted Tivoli Dance Group from Kingston, Jamaica. They were well received and it allowed a talented group of inner city children much needed International exposure. Funds raised from the performance helped them in their repairs to the dance floor at their school. We also helped to raise funds for the American Cancer Society, and hosted the Ms. Calabar Nigeria platform which helps young Ladies in their Native Nigeria with training and support on self-esteem.
