Italy travel: Pompeii resident's last gasps
Duration : 196 Seconds

Italy travel: Pompeii. Most of our Perillo Tours Familia is visible in this segment, as we meet a resident of Pompeii. You can see the anguish, as he was caught in the painful last gasps of life. Wow. Mt. Vesuvius had been proclaimed an extinct volcano by the experts of the day, so the eruption was quite a surprise to the residents of Pompeii. They didn't have time to escape. With some clever techniques, archaeologists were able to pour plaster molds of the residents of Pompeii where they died. Italy travel: Venice, Italy travel: Doge's Palace outside
Duration : 356 Seconds

Remarkable architecture, explained in detail by our wonderful Perillo tour guide. Video was permitted in the golden staircase and the outside courtyard. The Doge was the ruler of Venice. Wikipedia says "The palace was the residence of the Doge of Venice and contained the offices of a number of political institutions, arranged around a central courtyard." This travel video hopefully gives you a feel for the immense spaces that were occupied by the Doge's Palace in Venice. www.perillotours.com http://jpmeyer.com

Lonely Planet: Hello Italy - Travel
Duration : 178 Seconds

A quick snapshot of some of the places I visited in Italy. It was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to go back. I threw my coins into the Trevi so I'm sure I will.

Italy travel: Milan City Architecture Tour
Duration : 187 Seconds

Italy travel: Milan City Architecture Tour Such interesting buildings. Such a diversity of styles. The graffiti is most unfortunate, and the "from the bus" footage is not quite National Geographic style, but you get the flavor of this classic Italian town. Perillo's 48 passenger bus did negotiate these little streets with the deftness of a Smart Car, thanks to our driver Lorenzo. http://jpmeyer.com

Italy travel: St. Peter's Basilica and the Roman Colosseum s
Duration : 578 Seconds

Italy travel: Rome. St. Peter's Basilica and the Roman Colosseum slideshow. Two places where pictures just start to tell the story are St. Peter's Basilica, the largest church in the world, and the Flavian Amphitheater, otherwise known as the Roman Colosseum. In this video, the camera tries to show the views not seen on postcards (we've all seen them!). Italy travel: Venice's Murano Glass Factory Vase demo
Duration : 325 Seconds

A brilliant demonstration of the dying art of glass blowing. In this segment, George takes a clump of molten glass, adds colors, and turns it into a beautiful vase. It will take 24 hours for the vase to cool before it can be finished. Our Perillo Tours Familia sits in amazement. www.perillotours.com http://jpmeye.com

Italy travel: Milan's La Scala Opera House
Duration : 203 Seconds

First, a statue dedicated to Leonardo and four of his students on the backside of Milan's Galleria. Crossing the street in Italy was part of the fun of our Perillo Familia adventure. All of the best opera singers for generations have played the famous La Scala Opera House in Milan, Italy. The history of La Scala, also know as the behind-the-scenes stories, was material for many a hi-class soap opera. The main seating are of La Scala was not lit well enough to properly show the two story high Royal Box Seating.

Italy travel: Milan Italy Galleria Square
Duration : 232 Seconds

The square between the Duomo and the Galleria. Here we see a pan of the square, closeup of the Duomo's front door including a spot that has been rubbed shiny over the years by students hoping for good grades on their tests. The front side of the Duomo was undergoing renovations and was covered in scaffolding. http://jpmeyer.com

Italy travel: The Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Square slid
Duration : 448 Seconds

Italy travel: Rome, the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Square slideshow. Several thousand more non-repetitive pictures could have been obtained in the halls of the Vatican Museum, and much better pictures of the Sistine Chapel could have been obtained if proper video had been allowed. Then, Pope Benedict VXI gave his Wednesday blessing of the crowd in St. Peter's Square. The youngest member of our Perillo Tours Familia pointed out that "it really should be called St. Peter's Circle", and right she is! Italy travel: Beginning Amalfi Coast drive
Duration : 479 Seconds

Italy travel: Amalfi Coast beginning our drive. Here we stop outside Positano, where our hired taxi driver/tour guide (also named Tony, like our main Perillo Tours guide) gives us a local person's perspective. Tony knew which turnouts on the drive had the best views of the Amalfi Coast. He also knew which turnouts might contain the previous evening's alcoholic and post-coital refuse (inappropriate for our G-rated crowd). Tony was good! Besides being very informative, his accent was just a pleasure to listen to. Sorry the end of the tape came so suddenly, but this five minute segment gives you a good idea of what it's like to drive on Italy's famous Amalfi Coast. We had fun! Italy travel: Positano, on the Amalfi Coast
Duration : 314 Seconds

Italy travel: Positano, on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. This location was high on our list of things to see in Italy. Our Perillo Tours optional trip to the Isle of Capri was a bit expensive for the six of us, but even if it was included, we would still have opted for our trip to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. Tony the Taxicab driver / Tourguide negotiated some wonderful seasonings for us; a small dash of bruschetta on your tongue tasted like a pizza exploded in your mouth. Very tasty! Then Tony easily negotiated a "two way street", a passage barely big enough to be considered a sidewalk in Midtown Manhattan. Italy travel: Venice's Murano Glass Factory Horse demo
Duration : 267 Seconds

You wouldn't think it possible, but an even more impressive demonstration of the art of glass blowing. Our Perillo Tours Familia watches as a horse is almost magically extracted from a clump of molten glass. Then, the inevitable but gentle sales pitch. A quick panoramic view of the stunning works of art, and a peek at a lovely sparkling bauble. www.perillotours.com http://jpmeyer.com

Italy travel: Rome, one landmark after another with Perillo
Duration : 414 Seconds

Italy travel: Rome, back on the Perillo Tours bus. This video shows one landmark after another, including a 2,000 year old apartment building. Two staircases to the Senatorial Palace, one designed by Michaelangelo. The wedding cake/typewriter monument to King Victor Emanuele II. Trajan's Market. The Roman Forum. Of course each place would have been worth thorough exploration, but we were happy to sit and be given an overview tour. Italy travel: Rome. The Catacombs, with Perillo Tours of Ita
Duration : 307 Seconds

Italy travel: Rome, the Christian Catacombs (beginning). Unlike the Catacombs in Paris, these catacombs had no bones. However, it was a rather amazingly intricate and extensive network of tunnels! The video shows that you wouldn't want to play 'hide and seek' here. The one that we visited had tens of thousands of bodies interred in it's time. All the half arches you see in this video held a body or two (or more); the tiny spaces held children. Our Perillo Tours Familia walked single file down these narrow corridors. The sterility of the current presentation belies the magnitude of 10,000 corpses decomposing; the stench must have been overwhelming. (You can view this video, and other travel videos in full-size and near-DVD quality, travel stills and more at www.jpmeyer.com). Italy travel: Rome, The Vatican with Perillo Tours of Italy
Duration : 199 Seconds

Italy travel: Rome, the Vatican Museum. We're in 'Roma' now! The Vatican is one of the smallest independent city-states in the world, so officially, we're not in Rome; we're not even officially in Italy anymore! In this video, our Perillo Tours Familia gets a brief orientation on the Sistine Chapel. Inside the Sistine Chapel, neither talking or video taping is permitted, so our Perillo Tours guide gives us an overview of what we're about to see. These poster boards of the Sistine Chapel are the equivalent of a starving person looking at a picture of spaghetti and meatballs. The real deal is indescribable in words. Italy travel: Leaning Tower of Pisa, Baptistry, and Church o
Duration : 175 Seconds

The Bapistry and the Church of Pisa, and the famous bell tower, known the world over as "The Leaning Tower of Pisa." All the usual touristy videos. Insufficient time to climb the tower, which is one item Perillo Tours must change in their itinerary. There were a lot of tourists holding up or pushing down the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Duration : 347 Seconds

Italy travel: Rome. Slideshow video of St. Mary's (The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore), St. John's (The Basilica of St. John Lateran), the Roman Catacombs, our final Perillo Tours Familia dinner (with some *very* green walls in the background). Finally, some very tired kids on the way to the plane home. What a fantastic trip that was!
