Pino Daniele (born 19 March 1955) is an Italian vocalist, composer, and musician, whose influences cover a wide number of genres, fusing pop, blues, jazz, Italian and Middle eastern music into his own unique brand of world music. Daniele was born to a working-class family of southern Italian, ancestry, where his elders originated in Naples, Italy. His father was a port worker. A self-taught guitarist, he began his career as a musician playing for other singers in the 1970s. His debut in the Italian music world was in 1977 with the album Terra mia, a mix of Neapolitan tradition and sounds. Daniele defined his music with the term "tarantamblues", which indicated a mix of tarantella, rock arab and blues. His lyrics also attracted critical praise: written and sung in an intense command of the Neapolitan language, they contained strong and bitter accusations against the social injustices of Naples, as well as Italian society in general, and included melancholic personal themes. I decided to make this video because I felt it was necessary to explain the situation back in my country and how our great minds usually encounter problems in getting the right support and media coverage they need to spread the word about their new discovery. This is not the first time this happens, unfortunately, but this is one of the times when people are pushing forward and are asking for answers. Personally, I just sent 75 e-mails to the local and regional Italian MS Society chapters and to the tv stations (Rai and Mediaset) and hundreds of Italians have been doing the same so we are hoping that someone will start listening soon!
