Vulci - Etruscan-Roman Archaeological Park in Italy
Duration : 451 Seconds

A vast naturalistic and archaeological park covers most of the ancient Etruscan city Velch (now known by its Latin name, Vulci). Vulci lies about 100 km north-west of Rome (16 km from the Tirrenean Sea) on the coastal area of Lazio and Tuscany, Italy. Foreign tourists don't visit it and head for the few popular places, all overcrowded and overpriced, and few Italians visit Vulci. When there, we feel peaceful and alone with the unique nature of the the Maremma. Here and there - well apart and very well described also in English - are the archeological remains of a once great city, an important one in ancient Etruria, Things not mentioned in the movie: good little museum in 13-century castle, medieval bridge 30 m above River Fiora built on Etruscan and Roman foundations, Lake Pelicono with a little waterfall where we like to swim at the end of the walk and a couple of restaurants - one which we have used has tables in shade and pretty good local dishes, and is not expensive.

Pompeii: Visiting the Lost City and the National Archaeology Museum in Naples, Italy
Duration : 1591 Seconds

The ruins of Pompeii are incredible, but without a visit to the National Archaeological Museum in Naples, they feel incomplete. Most of the artifacts, mosaics, and frescoes from Pompeii are on display there, creating a more complete view of the famous lost city. The mosaics are rightfully famous, but the terrific condition of the frescoes blew me away.

The Archaeologist of Mussolini
Duration : 171 Seconds

Rome 1923. Fascist Italy wants to have an always greater role in the Balkan chessboards with the aim of making again the Mediterranean the Mare Nostrum, in virtue of the boasted inheritance of greatness derived from the Roman Empire to which the regimen inspires. Albania, a country rich in mines and oil fields, and from the geographic point of view, a privileged access to the Balkans, is the centre of political intrigues and of the international espionage in which the greatest European powers will be involved. Luigi Maria Ugolini, a young archaeologist from Bertinoro, officially sent in order to direct the Italian Archaeological Mission in Albania, finds himself unwillingly involved in the great Balkan game. Albania is a primary objective to reach at all costs and archaeology must become a mean of penetration in order to lay the ideological foundations for the annexation of Albania and set up the base of attack to Greece. Between lights and shades, Ugolini, considered by the most a pioneer of modern archaeology, will bring back to light, among thousands difficulties either financial or political, the site of Phoinike and the extraordinary city of Butrint, the Albanian Pompei, tied to the myth of Aenea and protected by UNESCO like a masterpiece of the humanity.
