The Ottawa Festival is an opportunity to celebrate and laugh with the Italian-Canadian community. This years participants connected with their inner Italian, which started with fun and ended with food. The restaurants along the Preston Street opened their patios and moved into the street, creating a European village feel, right in the centre of the Nation's Capital. People wandered, tasted, sipped, listened, watched and engaged as the street was engulfed with 125000 people. It featured the Ottawa Ferrari Festival, the Italian Car Parade, the Preston Street Bike Race, Opera, flag throwers, Italian entertainers, roving characters, a midway and nightly fireworks. 2011 is the first year in some time where the street was not engulfed in construction. With all of the pieces in place and the new Preston Street showing it new blacktop and urban design, visitors were not disappointed. The Festival of the Desmontegar (Desmontegada) is one of the most ancient alpine festivals in existence, and variations of it can be found throughout the Trentino/ Alto Adige regions of Italy. It marks the symbolic beginning of Autumn, when e farmers celebrate the return of their families and livestock from their summer homes, the high mountain dairies known as "malghe," back to the valley for the winter. The festival takes place over the course of 4 days, and includes special food and wine degustations, demonstrations by local artisans, concerts in the square, cheese-making demonstrations, a celebratory parade and a genuine Octoberfest Grand Finale. The Desmontegada depicted in this video takes place in the Primiero Valley, high in the Italian Dolomites. From 1981 to 1986 he was often a member of Enrico Rava's group. In the summer of 1982 he played in the "Gil Evans Orchestra" with musicians such as Steve Lacy, Lew Soloff and Ray Anderson; he also played with this ensamble at the "Sweet Basil" in New York in 1984/85 and at the "Umbria Jazz Festival" in 1987. In 1983 he began performing, both as the leader of his own groups and as a sideman, in jazz clubs, at concerts, and on television and radio broadcast throughout Europe and in the United States. He has worked with Kenny Clarke, Roswell Rudd, Sal Nistico, Chet Baker (who he played with in New York in 1985), Lee Konitz, John Surman, George Lewis, Barry Altschul, Joe Chambers, Aldo Romano, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Holland and Tony Oxley, to name just some.
