| | King Solomon's Tablet of Stone (BBC) Duration : 2945 Seconds 2001. A clandestine meeting of leading Israeli archaeologists are shown a remarkable artefact. It's a stone tablet, apparently from 1000BC. The writing on its face describes repairs to the temple of King Solomon. It is the first archaeological evidence ever found of this legendary building. The relic caused a sensation. But this was only just the start. For authentification, the tablet was taken to the Geological Survey of Israel. Here, after a battery of tests, including radiocarbon dating, scientists officially pronounced the stone to be genuine. The tests even revealed microscopic particles of gold in the outer layer of stone. These were apparently the result of the tablet surviving the fire which, according to the bible, destroyed the temple when the Babylonians sacked Jerusalem in 586BC. The stone tablet was offered for sale to the Israel Museum, home to many of Israel's greatest treasures. Rumours suggested the asking price was as high as $10million. Suspicions aroused But the museum needed to know where the stone had come from. Even its owner was a mystery. To make matters more complex, the stone itself had disappeared again. The Israeli Antiquities Authority wanted answers. A nine month search for the mysterious stranger who had first appeared with the stone eventually led them to a private detective who had been hired by a well known antiquities collector, Oded Golan. Golan insisted he too was just a front man for another collector. But the authorities were ... Tags :BBC, King, Solomon, Mystery, Tablet, Of, Stone, Archaeology

| | The Golden Bell - City of David Duration : 131 Seconds We are excited to share with you two truly incredible finds that were discovered in the City of David's Herodian Road Aqueduct Excavation in recent days. The first is rare etching of a menorah on stone, assumed to be the Temple Menorah. According to the Israel Antiquities Authority, the fact that the stone object was found at the closest proximity to the Temple Mount indicates that likely a passerby who saw the menorah with his own eyes and was amazed by its beauty incised his impressions on a stone and afterwards tossed his scrawling to the side of the road. He could scarcely have imagined that his creation would be found 2000 years later on a slab of stone. The second discovery is that of a Roman sword dated to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE, and found within the tunnel used by the last remaining Jews in Jerusalem to hide from the Roman troops during the destruction of the Second Temple. This Roman sword very possibly belonged to one of the foot soldiers of the Roman Legion in the last battle between the Romans and Jews over Jerusalem. The sword, considered very rare because of its incredible preservation, was found with its leather sheath partially intact. | | Archaeology and the Bible Duration : 1483 Seconds ABR Director of Development Henry Smith appears on the "Mark Daniels Show" from WFIL AM 560 in Philadelphia. Subjects of this interview include: Egyptian Inscription mentioning Israel, the ABR Dig at Khirbet el-Maqatir, Child Sacrifice and Abortion, and the influence of worldview on interpreting evidence. Notes: 1. The drawing of the section of the Berlin Pedestal Relief that reads "Israel"/"Ishrael" was provided by Peter van der Veen of the University of Mainz and is used with permission. 2. The picture of the relief comes courtesy of the Egyptian Museum in Berlin, and appears in the article: Israel in Canaan (Long) Before Pharaoh Merenptah? A Fresh Look at Berlin Statue Pedestal Relief 21687, published in: University of Journal of Ancient Egyptian Interconnections and authored by Peter van der Veen, Christoffer Theis, and Manfred Görg. 3. In this interview, Mr. Smith mentions that this inscription is the oldest inscription that has been discovered mentioning "Israel". The inscription itself dates to the reign of Ramesses II (ca. 1279--1212 BC) in the Nineteenth Dynasty, based on a similarity of names to those on the Merenptah Stela (ca. 1210 BC). The three authors above also concluded, based on the spellings of the names, that they were copied from an earlier inscription from around the time of Amenhotep II (ca. 1453--1419). Israeli Egyptologist Raphael Giveon (1916--1985) previously dated the inscription to the reign of Amenhotep III (ca. 1386--1349 BC). Strictly ... | | Israeli Archeologists: Evidence Confirms Temple Mount's Construction Completed After Herod's Death Duration : 131 Seconds For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ me.lt In The Old City of Jerusalem an important archaeological discovery has been made. Archaeologists are now convinced that King Herod did not finish constructing the Temple Mount in his own lifetime. Our correspondent has more. The common belief that the Roman king Herod built all of the Temple Mount is about to change. On Wednesday, the Israeli Antiquities Authority held a news conference announcing that ancient artefacts, discovered under the Western Wall of the Temple Mount, show that construction of The Temple was not completed during King Herod's lifetime. The artefacts include coins dated to 16 in the Common Era, while King Herod is believed to have died 20 years earlier. [Ronny Reich, Professor of Archaeology, University of Haifa]: "We have excavated the debris, we have sifted it carefully, and found inside 17 coins which could be identified. Four of them date to the days of the Roman Procurator Valerius Gratus. This means that the Western Wall of the Temple Mount could not have been built during the days of King Herod. " The finding did not come as a complete surprise to the archaeological community. It corroborates claims by historical sources saying that construction of the Temple Mount continued for generations after King Herod's death. [Ronny Reich, Professor of Archaeology, University of Haifa]: "We know from Flavius Josephus, the contemporary historian ...
