In 2003 Ala Bashir escaped the horrors and casualties of war in Iraq, where he was a world-famous plastic surgeon and artist under Saddam Hussein's regime, to live in a suburb in Nottingham. 'Memories of Keys' is an exhibition of his work being shown at Embrace Arts, the University of Leicester's arts centre, until Sunday 4 July 2010. In between high-profile visits to the US and the Middle East for exhibitions of his work, he quietly paints in his garage at home. Bashir still produces art that reflects the experiences of his working life in Iraq, expressing feelings and fears of anguish and resistance through his semi-surreal paintings. This exhibition includes new work on his established theme of keys - keys of life, to open doors etc - and also his strikingly-beautiful single-line drawings.

An artist has a vision of a memorial she is shown to create in a dream. This will honor the Lima Company of Ohio, in which 23 marines died in 2005. She is painting the individuals. The Lima Company will be redeployed. This artist is Anita Miller. Her paintings will be displayed on Memorial Day as eight canvases that depict 22 marines and a Navy corpsman. The display will run through Veterans Day in the Ohio Statehouse rotunda. The display will be titled, The Lima Company Memorial: A Rememberance of Spirit & Choice. The canvases ( 8 foot by 6 foot) will be arranged in an octagon, which will surround its viewers as if they were actually in the company of those soldiers who sacrificed their lives. Columbus Ohio's ABC 6 noon news carried this story on March 18th, 2008. The broadcast included an interview with Miller and showed some of the paintings. She was also written up in the Columbus Dispatch on March 11, 2008 pg. B1. It shows one of the log cabins near the place where the Purdue family lived in the early 1800s. John Purdue might have stayed in it. The cabin is in its original location northeast of Columbus, Ohio. It is approximately 16x22. The Purdue family, of 9 sisters and John, grew up in a one-story log cabin similar to this one in Pennsylvania. Iraq: Two Faces at Albareh Gallery in Bahrain, is the first presentation of two of the most notable Iraqi artists, thirty-six years after they left their country to further their education, not to realise their own creative ambitions, but to create art that would distinguish itself from other Western artistic achievements. In their absence, Saddam Hussains tyranny, the Iran-Iraq war and the two Gulf Wars consequently caused many Iraqi intellectuals, artists and prominent individuals to leave the country. Faisel and Modhir never managed to go back to their motherland. Instead, they manifested their own artistic independence as well as their desire to participate in the important changes taking place in the world of art, for Iraq. These two artists used their art to pursue their artistic dreams for their country. Their art became ambassadors that represent Iraq in an international milieu of artists, intellectuals and art collectors. Iraq: Two Faces, presents a selection of paintings that epitomise the striking look of Faisel Laibi and the bold spirit of Modhir Ahmed. The result is an unusual combination modern realism and post modern two-dimensional art a clash of radically two different styles that has been coexisting for more three decades but with one unified objective: To redefine the world view on Iraqi tradition, modernism and the avant-garde.

Over 1500 little plastic army men stuck on camouflage. The toy soldiers are 3 different colors with 8 different types each. Painted and glued down with acrylic on to a wood surface. The the feet bases are encased in an epoxy resin coating. Measures just over 3 foot by 4 foot. The charity auction on Ebay raised over $2000 for the USO.
