BQFP Tate Museum Event
Duration : 242 Seconds

Following its UK launch announcement, Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing (BQFP) launched its first list of books at the Tate Modern Museum in London with readings from a few of its leading authors to a distinguished audience, including members from the publishing and literary communities and invited guests from around the Middle East. Iraqi-born author and journalist Inaam Kachachi read two sections from her novel The American Granddaughter. The adult fiction novel was shortlisted for the International Arabic Prize for Fiction last year. The book tells a powerful and emotional story of a young Iraqi woman who left Iraq for the United States and later returned to her ancestral land as a translator with the US forces. Nariman Yousif, a rising star of Arabic translation, read from the BQFP English edition of The American Granddaughter. The next author, Suad Amiry, read from her new novel published by BQFP titled Nothing to Lose But Your Life: An 18-hour journey with Murad. In this novel Amiry, of Palestinian descent, tells of her 18-hour journey crossing the Israeli border illegally to seek work with a busload of men doing the same. Following the readings, children's writers Julia Donaldson, Sally Grindley, Michael Terry and Andy Smart joined Her Highness Sheikha Mozah for a brief discussion of children's books. Her Highness and Seif Salmawy, Managing Director for BQFP, met with writers and literary figures following the readings and discussions.

Gwynne Dyer gives his predictions for Iraq
Duration : 1648 Seconds

Bush's Iraq strategy has been an abysmal failure - just as Gwynne Dyer argued it would be in his books "Ignorant Armies" and "Future: Tense". What will happen not just in Iraq and the Middle East region once American troops are withdrawn? In his new book "The Mess They Made," Dyer predicts that the Middle East will go through the biggest shake up since the region was conquered and folded into the Ottoman Empire five centuries ago.
