On the 11th of January 2012, Iran woke up to the news of another terrorist attack on an Iranian scientist. Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan was killed on his way to work. His attackers followed his car on a motorcycle and, when the time was right, attached a magnetic bomb to his side of the vehicle. Seconds later all that was left of Roshan, was a charred body. His two colleagues were also badly wounded. One of them later died in hospital. In the past 2 years, this is the fourth such terrorist attack to result in the death of an Iranian nuclear scientist. Iran is pushing ahead with its nuclear energy program, despite the West's demands that it be halted indefinitely. An Iranian bomber blew off his own legs when he hurled a grenade at Thai police outside a Bangkok school - which bounced off a tree and then exploded at his feet. The first news reports were from Twitter users reporting two large explosions in the area. As more information came in from local authorities it emerged that the bomber, an Iranian national named Saedi Moradi, had initially thrown a home-made grenade at a taxi after being refused a ride. The bomb rolled under the cab and fortunately the driver wasn't hurt. He fled the scene, then attempted to throw a second explosive device at some Thai police officers, in the vicinity of a school playground. The bomb slipped from his fingers and exploded on the ground, severing both his legs. He was still alive when rushed under arrest to nearby Chulalongkorn hospital. There were no fatalities although four Thais were injured. Two Iranians are now in police custody, including an accomplice renting a house on Soi Pridi, near Phra Khanong Skytrain station. Perhaps most surprising is that US authorities had warned the Thai government of a suspected Lebanese or Iranian terrorism plot in Bangkok some weeks ago, and Thai police even raided a property and charged a Lebanese suspect with possessing bomb-making equipment. DemocracyNow.org - Journalist Seymour Hersh has revealed that the Bush administration secretly trained an Iranian opposition group on the State Department's list of foreign terrorists. Hersh reports the US Joint Special Operations Command trained operatives from Mujahideen-e-Khalq, or MEK, at a secret site in Nevada beginning in 2005. According to Hersh, MEK members were trained in intercepting communications, cryptography, weaponry and small unit tactics at the Nevada site up until President Obama took office. The MEK has been listed as a foreign terrorist groups since 1997 and is linked to a number of attacks, spanning from the murders of six US citizens in the 1970s to the recent wave of assassinations targeting Iranian nuclear scientists. Hersh also discusses the role of Israeli intelligence and notes the Obama administration knew about the training, "because they have access to what was going on in the previous administration in this area, in terms of the MEK, in terms of operations inside Iran." Feb. 14 -- Thailand's government said an Iranian was critically injured by a grenade as he and two other men bid to escape arrest following an explosion at their rented Bangkok home. "The one who is seriously injured is Iranian," government spokeswoman Thitima Chaisang said by phone, citing information given to her by police. "We think the others are also Iranian because they lived in the same house. They ran off and police are looking for them." Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said it was too early to assume terrorists were to blame for the blasts and urged the public not to panic. Four others were injured in the incident, in which M-26 grenades were used, Thai police spokesman Prawut Thavornsiri said by phone. The incident follows car-bomb attacks on Israeli diplomats yesterday in the capitals of India and Georgia that Israel blamed on Iranian-backed terrorism. It also comes a month after the US Embassy warned that "foreign terrorists" aimed to attack tourist areas in Bangkok. Thai police last month charged a Swedish-Lebanese man they said was linked to Hezbollah with possessing illegal substances after detaining him in connection with a plan to attack sites frequented by Americans and Israelis.
