Mahmoud Farshchian (Persian: محمود فرشچیان, Mahmud Faršciyân; born January 24, 1930) is a world renowned master of Persian painting and miniatures. He was born in the city of Isfahan in Iran, a place famed for its art and artists, and it was here where he started to learn art, painting and sculpting. His masterpieces have been hosted by several museums and exhibitions worldwide. He's the most prominent modernizer of the field of miniatures, an art form which was first established in Ancient Persia and later spread to China and Turkey and other Middle eastern countries. Farshchian is the founder of his own school in Iranian Painting, which adheres to classical form while making use of new techniques to broaden the scope of Iranian painting. He has brought new life to this art form and has freed it from the symbiotic relationship it has historically had with poetry and literature, to give it an independence it had not previously enjoyed. His powerful and innovative paintings are dynamic, expansive and vibrant canvases with an appealing fusion of the traditional and the modern, which are constitutes of his unique style of painting. Illustrations describing the verses of the Holy book of Islam the Quran; using the language of colors, patterns and flowers. Illustrated Quran is the title of an exhibition opened in Iran during the month of Ramadan. The venue showcases the works of Sahmeddin Zamani a skillful painter who has dedicated his entire life to creating what he calls the first illustrated Quran in the world. The 65 year old Iranian painter has so far devoted 42 years of his life on the project. Up until now he has finished 97 of these paintings. This veteran painter has so far displayed his illustrated Quran in 65 exhibitions in cluding in Germany, Hungary, Syria and Lebanon. He says that his only wish is to live long enough to finish his project, a pledge he has made to God. Every painting is inspired by the Surah that it represents. The shapes and colors go perfectly with the theme of each story; from the Surah of Layl or the night ...to Shams or the sun. Zamani says that a single incident prompted him to leave real and classical painting behind and start illustrating the Quran.

He has been fascinated by the art of Painting since he was a child. At the age of 15, he started to learn painting under the mastery of his first and only teacher - Morteza Katouzian - who is the greatest realist painter of Iran. Meanwhile, he began to paint professionally. In 1999 he graduated in Graphic Design from the Art University of Tehran. Since 1998, he has participated in several exhibitions. In the year 2000, he got married and in the following year he established ARA Painting Studio and started to teach painting, considering classical and traditional values. The most important exhibitions he has participated in, are: The Exhibition of Realist painters of Iran at Tehran Contemporary Museum of Art(1999) and The Group Exhibition of KARA Studio Painters at SABZ Gallery(1998) and at SA'AD ABAD Palace(2003). In 2005, Iman received the William Bouguereau award and the Chairman's Choice award in the second international ARC salon competition.

He loved painting since childhood and he spent all his time on learning this art without any teacher. In 1960 he started graphics and painting work professionally. In graphics, he had created several posters, logos, book covers and brochures. In 1974, he accepted the responsibility of holding Tehran International Graphics Exhibition named "African Starvelings" sponsored by IAA international organization, and he performed the task in a reputable way and Swon the prize of "Poster of Integration". He was one of the founders of Graphic Artists' syndicate in the years before the revolution and he was its head of the board for 2 years. During the past years, he has attended several collective exhibitions and held 4 solo exhibitions. All of them were "The Most Visited" exhibitions in the history of art in Iran due to the high quality of exhibited works and the affectionate look at humans and issues related to their lives which were presented in these paintings. As an example, according to the official statistics the exhibition of his works at Museum of Contemporary Arts in 1979 had 20000 visitors. "The Museum of Master Mahmoud Farshchian", is a museum devoted to the works of the master, which has been set up by the Cultural Heritage Foundation in the Sa'dabad Cultural Complex in Tehran.
