( www.iranican.com ) The first "Iranian Heritage Night" was put together for Hamed Haddadi, the first Iranian-American basketball player in the NBA, (Center for the Memphis Grizzlies), playing against the Warriors at Oracle Arena. This event also featured Farshid Amin singing the national anthem as well as Niosha Dance Academy performing a pregame dance. In this video (Part 1), we interview the attendees and Farshid Amin, in Part 2, to be released soon, we interview Hamed Haddadi and one of the Grizzlies coaches. The Iranian Heritage Day will be held at the Royal Ontario Museum on May 26, 2012. It includes authentic Iranian musical and dance performances, as well as displays of magnificent Persian works of art. In addition, there will be screening documentaries, listening to the insights of leading Iranian artistic and literary figures, music and dance workshops and Iranian themed hands-on activities. This annual event and other upcoming Iran-related programs at the ROM will enlighten thousands of culture enthusiasts regarding Iranian heritage and art. Since the ROM is focused on introducing Canadians to the world's cultural and historical riches, the Iranian Heritage Day is a great opportunity for the Iranian-Canadian community to showcase the richness of Iranian civilization to the broader Canadian society. Various workshops, documentary and lectures followed by QA sessions on the cultural aspects of the programs are planned to provide opportunities for discussions and learning. These approaches will connect mainstream society and the Iranian Community through arts, culture, tradition and history in a unique and unprecedented way. The event will help building bridges between communities and promotes intercultural understanding.

This project will create a free online database of the complete archive of all 1616 Golha radio programmes produced between 1956 and 1979 in Iran for students, researchers and enthusiasts everywhere. This digital musical archive will be available in perpetuity to a worldwide audience, and it will include biographies of all the poets and artists included in the programmes and musical notes for all the pieces. Shah of Iran from 1587 1629 AD, he is remembered as one of the countrys most influential kings and a great military leader, ruling Iran at a time of political renewal, when it succeeded in positioning itself as a world power with a sharply defined national identity. Shah ʿAbbas came to the throne in 1587, the fifth ruler of the Safavid Dynasty. Through trade, patronage and diplomacy Shah ʿAbbas fostered good relations with Europe and ushered in a golden period in the arts, commissioning beautiful works of art and grand architecture. He was a great builder and restorer of major monuments across the country and this architectural legacy will provide the context in which to explore the themes of his reign. The exhibition will feature luxurious gold-ground carpets, exquisite Chinese porcelains, illustrated manuscripts, watercolour paintings, metalwork and beautiful silks, objects similar to those Shah ʿAbbas gave to important religious sites across Iran. The famous calligrapher Ali Riza ʿAbbasi was a key figure throughout Shah ʿAbbass reign and examples of his work will feature prominently in the exhibition.
