Along with Cannes, the London film festival, even America's Academy awards Iranian cinematic art is being recognized all around the world. And nowhere is that more apparent than in neighboring Turkey. The curtain has just been drawn on a weeklong festival in the western city of Izmir, which showcased 10 of the top films produced by some of the best in the Iranian industry. "The Lost Truth" directed by Mohammad Ahmadi and staring well known actor Hamid Farrokhnejad was one such film. With more than 20 films under his belt, Press TV sat down with Mr. Farrokhnejad to ask him why he thought his films are so popular in Turkey. And its those mistakes and beliefs that the Turkish people relate to. Similar festivals have been held in the Turkish cities of Van, Bursa and Istanbul this year alone. Critics have argued that the Iranian film market exports the best films after Hollywood and Bollywood. Istanbul's renowned Emek Movie Theatre has been the home to foreign films, including many Iranian ones, since 1920. The recent battle to stop the destruction of this historic building has pulled in protest from people from all over the world, which shows how theses films really do bring communities together. And this popularity in foreign films comes at a time when Turkey's own domestic film market is thriving. Reports show that the industry earned over 200 million usd from ticket sales in 2010. Bahman Ghobadi first came to the movie world's attention in 2000, when his first feature film, "A Time for Drunken Horses," won the prize for best first feature at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was the first Kurdish language movie ever to gain worldwide attention. Since then Ghobadi has made three more features, all in the Kurdish language. His most recent, "Half Moon," is currently banned in Iran though it has been shown in festivals around the world.
