| | Orangutan, Bukit Lawang / Indonesia, Sumatra Duration : 117 Seconds This semi-wild orangutan latched onto a Dutch tourist as she walked along the trail near the feeding area. The guides suggested that this uncommon behavior was due to the recent loss of a child. Reluctantly feeding the animal a banana was the only way the guides could free her from its powerful arms and legs. | | Globe Trekker - Globe Trekker - Indonesia: The Eastern Islands featuring Mark Crowdy Duration : 2755 Seconds Traveler Mark Crowdy starts his Indonesian journey in Bali and takes a ferry from the Port of Padangbai to Lombok (sometimes called the new Bali) and the Eastern Islands. Lombok has a drier climate than Bali and its population is predominantly Muslim as opposed Bali's Hindu majority. Tourism is developing fast here but the animist culture still survives, especially amongst the local Sasak tribe. Mark attends a stick fight or Peresehan, a traditional form of combat. Local spirit magicians known as Dukans put spells on the sticks to protect the fighters from injury. Indonesia has some 400 volcanoes and Mark spends a day making a steep climb up Mount Rinjani to the rim of the crater lake just below the summit, where people of all religions come to pray and meditate. Mark takes a boat ride to the island of Komodo to see the famous Komodo dragon, the world's largest lizard. Its razor sharp teeth can tear apart the hindquarter of a deer in seconds. It was feared that the dragons were facing extinction but money earned from tourists watching the grizzly spectacle has been used to ensure their survival. From Komodo Mark takes a peaceful boat ride to Flores, one of Indonesia's largest islands. He sees the dramatic sight of the sulfur lakes of Kelimut, which locals believe the souls of the dead go into the brilliant colored lakes: the young to the green, the old to the blue and the criminals to the black. | | My first time in Indonesia Batam 2008 Duration : 478 Seconds After knowing Batam is in Indonesia, I decided to pay my visit there. It is not much different from Malaysia but from what I have seen, Batam is more lively then Johor. Batam main island is at south of Singapore. Entered Batam from Singapore Harbour Front. Nevertheless there are still some homeless children wondering around the town and this is very sad to see. :( .. Malaysia is better in this sense and I beleived we do not have any homeless children at our country today. Hotel Bahari 1 : 140000 rupiah : 0778 421911 a clean and safe hotel. | | Ilaga friends in Tembagapura Duration : 276 Seconds I had spent Easter weekend of 2003 in Tembagapura, kindness of Freeport who paid my round-trip from Jakarta. And I had just been interviewed for a Grade 2 opening in August at Mt. Zaagham Internationl School (about 70 students then). Great weekend! -- Apart from the excitement of being there, just over the high plateau from Ilaga, I got in on a big party and the best, a school field-trip up to the mine and beyond.. to the Meren lakes! This scene is just before meeting-up with a couple teachers to eat brunch at the lavish Lupa Lelah Club before heading down to Timika to fly back the next day. I had a few minutes free & met up with some Danis from Ilaga!... the lady remembering me as a child. Nice moment on Easter! (Again, much forgotten Dani, but potential, especially with the excitement of possibly getting the job... but I unfortunately I didn't!!).. Just watched the video again... a bit hyper, maybe from caffine, the interview & the need to rush. Oh well. | | Raja Ampat "Day in the Trip - Mangroves" Underwater Video Duration : 305 Seconds "Day in the Trip - Mangroves" is the first of a series of 1-5 min. underwater videos, each recorded from a single day's diving in Raja Ampat, Halmahera and Lembeh Strait Indonesia on City Seahorse, Inc. dive / photo trips. In Deep Water Mangroves much of the action and beauty is very near or at the surface. Archerfish, halfbeaks, juvenile batfish, feeding corals, nudibranchs, colorful soft corals are combined in this Raja Ampat video. I laugh when non-divers ask.. how deep do you dive? I expect the maximum depth this day was 30ft. Average probably less than 10ft. This particular day of diving is included on our Raja Ampat, Sorong-Sorong and Sorong-Halmahera-Lembeh itineraries. These trips are targeted toward underwater photographers and videographers. The video was shot with a Sony HC3 camcorder in a Gates Housing with Fathom Super Wide Port, SWP44. Captured in High Definition but converted to SD and Flash for display on the web page. A higher quality version is available on the www.cityseahorse.com website noted at the end of the underwater video. Information about the trips is available at www.CitySeahorse.com They are 14 day liveaboard charters with 14 nights on board, 14 days of diving. Maximum 12 guests, unlimited bottom time, extra dives & my own Raja Ampat experienced team of dive professionals to assist. | | Indonesia: Visiting Malang, Java Duration : 196 Seconds www.TravelsWithSheila.com The group only had half a day to sightsee around Malang but, fortunately, there aren't many "must sees." That being said, I really liked Malang and would have liked one more day to explore. We took a bemo to the main area of Alun-Alun for twenty-five cents, and becak back after we became hopelessly lost. Through the bird market, around the main Alun-Alun square, looked at old Dutch houses, and becak'd through an obviously affluent neighborhood. Almost time to leave for Mount Bromo. | | Indonesia: The Sultan's Palace Museum and Dancing, Yogyakarta, Java Duration : 169 Seconds www.TravelsWithSheila.com The tour continued in the Sultan's Palace (Kraton) through a small museum. It's worth having a guide who will fill you in on all the gossipy details of the Sultan. Each Sultan had many wives, many "unofficial wives," different hobbies, likes and dislikes. A free musical and dancing concert was taking place today and we stayed for a brief period of time. Both the music and dancing moves at a snail's pace and almost put us to sleep but still enjoyable.
