| | I Am From (Video Poetry) by Rahmat Sah Saragih Duration : 383 Seconds Rahmat Sah Saragih, 18 Global Citizen Corps Indonesia I Am From I am from February 4th, 1993 I am from a big city, we live long. Living 24 hours, 7 days, 12 months. Take a big picture, I am from a place where diversity is what we proud of And I am inside that diversity. Everyone indeed. In other hand, it seems like diversity is there, appreciated lovely But we have this tiny part that is left behind. We have these hundreds of ethnics, hundreds of languages, and other diversity of humanity But what part from 'we should respect the diversity as well as we admit it' don't we understand? I can see somehow that if you're a homosexual, you would probably not welcome anymore Different beliefs, different treatment. Simple. Recjection. If you're skin is darker, you would like to think that you have to put this whitening lotion If you're fat, we have these TV commercials that would make you want to be slim to be loved I'm trying to see, what is wrong with me? What is wrong with just being honest of who you are? Well, I saw in high school that bullying was laughable And some students had to pretend to be someone else so that they could avoid being bullied I am from a place where honesty fights to win the battle To win over the hypocrisy I am from a place where society value love But somehow it's just for majority who feel normal I want it to be applied for all For the fats, for the skinnies, for the straights, for the gays For the religious, for the non-religious For the easterns ... | | Indonesian Artists Launch Literature in Town Space Duration : 88 Seconds Indonesian artists in Jakarta have launched a campaign to revive the public image of literature. The Literature in Town Space campaign is taking poetry out of the books, and putting it on display. Here's more. The graffiti on this wall is not an advertisement or political in nature. This is poetry put on display to promote the Literature in Town Space campaign. The goal? To revive what aficionados call a nearly-forgotten art form. Ten poems in total cover walls lining major streets in the capital Jakarta. The pieces being put on display for the public are acknowledged masterpieces, composed by famous Indonesian poets such as Chairil Anwar, Gunawan Muhamad and Eka Budianta. A party was held to kick off the campaign, and hundreds of writers, artists, and film stars were in attendance. The literature lovers have plans to add more poetic graffiti in the future, though they expect most big streets to soon be filled with political campaign posters for the upcoming March 2009 election. [Zen Hae, Literature in Town Space Campaign Member]: MALE SOUNDBITE IN INDONESIAN (MAN IN GRAY SHIRT) We have to fight with other commercial banners, existing graffiti or political campaign posters, so we only have a bit of space. But I think it will be enough to surprise people that literature can also be an ornament to the city. [Riri Rizal, Indonesian Movie Director]: MALE SOUNDBITE IN INDONESIAN (MAN IN PINK SHIRT) I really enjoy the simplicity of art when we can use everyday language to ...
