| Ancient Sarcophagus Unearthed In Indonesia Duration : 62 Seconds And in Indonesia, archaeologists have found an ancient tomb with a 25 hundred-year old body inside. It was a little village near Bali, Indonesia. Researchers from the Bali Archaeology Bureau are studying a 25 hundred-year old sarcophagus uncovered in Keramas Village, Indonesia. It is the thirteenth ancient tomb of its kind uncovered in Keramas. [Muksin Riadi, Discovered the Sarcophagus]: Well, I was digging in the soil with my hoe, when I suddenly struck an unfamiliar type of rock. I kept digging--carefully--so that I wouldn't damage the stone." Archaeologists have confirmed that Riadi's find is a genuine sarcophagus, measuring about 92 centimeters long, and dating back to the Metal Age. Because so many sarcophagi have been unearthed in Keramas, researchers believe the area must once have been a burial ground. NTD, Jakarta, Indonesia. | | Arm-wrestling at Wolo Sege, Flores, Indonesia Duration : 280 Seconds This is the Wolo Sege (Flores, Indonesia) archaeological team relaxing after a hard day's digging with some "serious" arm-wrestling, in July 2010. Participants are, in order of appearance: Boni Tora (Mengeruda) and Jublina Tode Solo (Kupang), Fitalis Beto (Mengeruda) and Michael Marsh (Australia), and finally, Adam Brumm (Australia). Wolo Sege is an Early Pleistocene archaeological site in the So'a Basin of central Flores; excavations by our joint Indonesian/Australian team in 2005 and 2010 yielded flaked stone tools in sediments dated to around 1-million-years-ago. It is the oldest site on Flores and perhaps the earliest in all of Southeast Asia with reliably-dated stone tools. Tags :Wolo, Sege, Flores, Indonesia, Mengeruda, Village, Arm-wrestling

| | Bali: The Sarcophagus (old stone coffins) in Margatengah Payangan by Hans & Fifi Duration : 601 Seconds "The Young Archaeologists" on tour again. Now in search of the "Sarkofagus Margatengah". Old stone coffins, in which important people some 2000 years ago were buried in. Already the trip to the site was fantastic, through the beautiful and sometimes remote landscape of Payangan. Normally the artifacts are to be seen in a museum on Bali, but here they are shown in the field, where the people discovered the interesting archaeological sarcophagus. Many thanks to Pak Gedang, who showed us around. Again a great experience!!! Tags :Bali, Mergatengah, Payangan, Sarcophagus, Indonesia, Archaeology

| | Bali: "The young archaeologists" searching for Pura Puseh Wasan Duration : 596 Seconds Last year (in 2009) we heard from the mangku at Pura Hyang Tiba, which we just had visited, about an old temple near the old Canggi temple with old statues (arca). As "the young archaeoligists" our curiosity was arisen and so we went searching for with our good friends Pak Muning and Dewa Cerix. We had really to look for it (had to ask many times). It should be on the end of a very small road. Only for motorbikes, as they told us. But there was not much of a road in the end (that's why we overlooked it on first sight). And had to do some walking. We were surprised what we found. Here we felt really as archaeological investigators. Lucky for us the mangku came out of the new temple built on the backside of it.: W. Badjera. He was kindly and very helpful. And we find out about the story of Dukuh Kedangan. It was in the time of Gaja Madah. GM marries the daughter of Dukuh Kedangan. She goes to Java and gives birth to a son Arya Bebed. | | 1205 #96 Australia's New Discovery Duration : 207 Seconds Is captain Cook the first explorer of Australia? A new archeology discovery just might rewrite the Australian history. These archaeologists have been on a seven-week expedition to Western Arnhem Land in Australia's Northern Territory, where they've been testing the established historical timeline about the first contact between local indigenous people and foreign traders, who the archaeologists think might be the Macassans from Indonesia, for trading the trepang, or sea cucumbers. | | Sambisari Temple in Yogya - Indonesia Duration : 131 Seconds Sambisari is a 9th century Hindu temple located at Sambisari hamlet, Purwomartani village, Kalasan, Sleman regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The temple was buried about five metres underground.[1] Parts of the original temple have been excavated . The temple is located about 8 km east of Yogyakarta near Adisucipto International Airport. Discovery The temple was accidentally discovered in July 1966 by a farmer when working on land that belongs to Karyowinangun. His hoe hit the carved stone which was a part of the buried temple ruins.[2] The news of discovery reached the Archaeology office in Prambanan and the area was secured. The excavation and reconstruction works was completed in March 1987. The temple is thought to have been buried by an eruption of volcanic ash from the nearby Mount Merapi.[3] The discovery of Sambisari temple probably was the most exciting archaeological findings in Yogyakarta in recent years, leading to speculation about whether there are other ancient temples still underground in the vicinity, buried under Mount Merapi volcanic ash. History Based on the architecture style and ornaments of the building that resembles those on Prambanan, the findings of Hindu statues around the temple walls, and the lingga-yoni inside the main temple; historians concluded that Sambisari was a Shivaite Hindu temple built around first or second decade of 9th century (circa 812-838). This conclusion was supported by the findings of gold plate in vicinity engraved with ... Tags :candi, temple, sambisari
