The History of Religions in Indonesia (Islam,Christianity,Hinduism,Buddhism,Confucianism)
Duration : 604 Seconds

CORRECTION : ISLAM CAME TO INDONESIA IN 7th CENTURY,NOT 17th CENTURY !!! The reason I'm making this video is to respond the ignorant and stupid comments of people who do not know about the history of religions living in Indonesia.exp : "Islam has killed many non-Muslims in Indonesia ! " really ? Do you find the evidence? , or you just watch and hear the propaganda news abroad ?. precisely in Indonesia, religious activities are protected by the government, both of religions that have been recognized as an official religion or religion not officially recognized.Indonesian people whatever their religion is very religious society, this proves there are no temples or houses of worship were destroyed, while many Indonesian people no longer embrace that religions.so anyone who wants to give a comment insulting Indonesia and religions that exist in this video, chances are I will not accept that comments, except comments which explains more about the history of religions in Indonesia..Please be Advise !!!

The Republic of Indonesia / Republik Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia and Oceania. Indonesia comprises 17508 islands. With a population of around 230 million people, it is the world's fourth most populous country, and has the world's largest population of Muslims. Indonesia is a republic, with an elected legislature and president. The nation's capital city is Jakarta. The country shares land borders with Papua New Guinea, East Timor, and Malaysia. Other neighboring countries include Singapore, Philippines, Australia, and the Indian territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Indonesian archipelago has been an important trade region since at least the seventh century, when Srivijaya and then later Majapahit traded with China and India. Local rulers gradually adopted Indian cultural, religious and political models from the early centuries CE, and Hindu and Buddhist kingdoms flourished. Indonesian history has been influenced by foreign powers drawn to its natural resources. Muslim traders brought Islam, and European powers fought one another to monopolize trade in the Spice Islands of Maluku during the Age of Discovery. Following three and a half centuries of Dutch colonialism, Indonesia secured its independence after World War II. Indonesia's history has since been turbulent, with challenges posed by natural disasters, corruption, separatism, a democratization process, and periods of rapid economic change. Across its many islands, Indonesia consists of ...

Indonesian Batik
Duration : 426 Seconds

UNESCO: Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - 2009 URL: www.unesco.org Description: The techniques, symbolism and culture surrounding hand-dyed cotton and silk garments known as Indonesian Batik permeate the lives of Indonesians from beginning to end: infants are carried in batik slings decorated with symbols designed to bring the child luck, and the dead are shrouded in funerary batik. Clothes with everyday designs are worn regularly in business and academic settings, while special varieties are incorporated into celebrations of marriage and pregnancy and into puppet theatre and other art forms. The garments even play the central role in certain rituals, such as the ceremonial casting of royal batik into a volcano. Batik is dyed by proud craftspeople who draw designs on fabric using dots and lines of hot wax, which resists vegetable and other dyes and therefore allows the artisan to colour selectively by soaking the cloth in one colour, removing the wax with boiling water and repeating if multiple colours are desired. The wide diversity of patterns reflects a variety of influences, ranging from Arabic calligraphy, European bouquets and Chinese phoenixes to Japanese cherry blossoms and Indian or Persian peacocks. Often handed down within families for generations, the craft of batik is intertwined with the cultural identity of the Indonesian people and, through the symbolic meanings of its colours and designs, expresses their creativity and ...

Indonesian politicians divided on democracy - 10 Dec 08
Duration : 175 Seconds

Indonesia has a history of unrest and conflict but the world's third largest democracy is now seen as one of the more stable countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Indonesian president Susilo Yudhoyono has invited representatives from 30 countries to the first Asian Democracy Forum on the island of Bali. But as Step Vaessen reports, even some within Indonesia's government are arguing that democracy comes at an economic price.
