Save Pasar Johar : Indonesian Heritage
Duration : 142 Seconds

Save Pasar Johar, the Great Achievement of Indonesian Heritage Pasar Johar. is Indonesian tradional market building located in Semarang city, Central Java, Indonesia. It is one of Indonesian tangible heritages by a Dutch architect, Herman Thomas Karsten (1884-1945). It was planned in 1933 by him, its building process was over in 1939. Unfortunately the mayor of Semarang city would demolish this great achievement and change it into modern trading region like Mangga Dua and Pasar Tanah Abang in Jakarta . It is hot issue in Semarang currently. All the sellers of the traditional market are being worried about and to disagree with demolishing the building. They hope the Semarang local government does not do it. The problem is just to rearrange the messy outlets, vendors and clean the surroundings, not to demolish it. Support and donate us in making documentary film on Thomas Karsten's architectural works directed by Tonny Trimarsanto. Potehi
Duration : 82 Seconds

Wayang Potehi @ Dtopeng Kingdom Indonesian Heritage Art Museum 115°10'56.50"E 8°43'13.93"S According to history, the first wayang potehi was made by one of five men who were sentenced to death. When the four other inmates spent their time by lamenting over their fate, one was spending his time creating dolls. Seeing the dolls, the four other inmates were eventually attracted to amuse themselves with these dolls accompanied by percussion music using improvised equipment such as pots and dishes. The percussion music was heard by the emperor and attracted his attention so much, that the five death row inmates were eventually released. Potehi is derived from the word poo (cloth), tay (bag), and hie (doll). the wayang potehi means a pouch doll made of cloth. It is called a pouch doll because to play it you need to put your hand from the bottom part of the doll, which resembles a pouch. Wayang potehi arrived in Indonesia around the 16th and 19th century when the Admiral Cheng Ho set foot on the North Coast of Java Island, accompanied by merchants and other immigrants from mainland China. These Chinese immigrants were the ones who then introduced wayang potehi in Indonesia. At the inauguration of the Goddess Kwan Im statue at Tay Kak Sie Temple in Semarang in 1772, wayang potehi was demonstrated for the first time. Like the other puppet shows, wayang potehi show is also accompanied by music. Along with the passing time, Chinese immigrants mingled with the local Javanese society ...
