After the Independence of Pakistan, 1947, the first war arose over Kashmir. Pakistan's eyes are set on Kashmir due to two-nation theory, Kashmir regarding being Muslim majority, a state which was supposed to accede to Pakistan. Unfortunately, Kashmir was being ruled by barbaric oppressive curropt dogra dynasty led by Maharja Hari singh, who was placed under tremendous pressure from Indian government to accede to India. The Founder of Pakistan , Mohammad Ali Jinnah declared this war authorised military action. Both Pakistan Army and Tribal Warlords promised to seize it for Pakistan. Due to Pakistan Military victory capturing half Kashmir, India referred the dispute to the United Nations on 1 January. In a resolution dated August 13, 1948, the UN asked Pakistan to remove its troops, after which India was also to withdraw the bulk of its forces. However, the result of the war still affects the geo-politics of both countries. Jammu Kashmir is still unfinished business of the partition.

The Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 was a military conflict between India and Pakistan. Indian, Bangladeshi and international sources consider the beginning of the war to be Operation Chengiz Khan, Pakistan's December 3, 1971 pre - emptive strike on 11 Indian airbases. Lasting just 13 days it is considered one of the shortest wars in history. During the course of the war, Indian and Pakistani forces clashed on the eastern and western fronts. The war effectively came to an end after the Eastern Command of the Pakistani Armed Forces signed the Instrument of Surrender, on December 16, 1971 following which East Pakistan seceded as the independent state of Bangladesh. Around 97368 West Pakistanis who were in East Pakistan at the time of its independence, including some 79700 Pakistan Army soldiers and paramilitary personnel and 12500 civilians, were taken as prisoners of war by India.

There are very few post-World War II wars fought that were legally and morally justified, and I will spend time discussing the ones that I believe are, and explain my legal and ethical reasoning. One key example if the war fought between India in Pakistan in December, 1971. The short war was fought between December 3rd and 16th. India responded in self-defense, immediately put a stop to the atrocities against those in East Pakistan, and did not occupy or attempt régime change in (West) Pakistan. India was in and out within a matter of weeks. This videos explains the background of Bangladesh and Pakistan, international law and the United States' official policy towards Pakistan at the time. Unfortunately, the United States sided with (West) Pakistan and was against Bengali independence. The United States was also fully aware of the atrocities that Pakistan carried out against East Pakistan from March -- December, 1971, and still continued to support Pakistan. The Soviet Union (USSR), on the other hand, supported the Bengalis, as did India.
