Links: www.stefanblondal.com www.dk.touchofart.eu Vocal: Boris Grebenshchikov Music: Alexander Vertinsky (1889 - 1957) Lyrics: Nadezhda Teffi (1872 - 1952) English translation: Igor To the Cape of Joy or to the Cliffs of Grief, to the Islands of Lavender Skies, - just wherever we moor to achieve relief, our eyelids are weary to rise. Muddy portholes are looking pictorial: palms of Tropics and icebergs of blue, golden gardens of time immemorial, all this slowly appears into view. But wherever we moor to achieve relief, to the islands of lavender skies, to the Cape of Joy or to the Cliffs of Grief, our eyelids are weary to rise.

NATIONAL GALLERY OF ICELAND
Duration : 547 Seconds

A interview with Dr.Halldór Björn Runólfsson at The National Gallery of Iceland The National Gallery of Iceland houses the main collection of Icelandic art, covering in particular 19th and 20th century Icelandic and international art. It contains the main Icelandic key works of the 20th century, by the nation's leading artists. The collection is in constant enlargement. New works of art by young artist are bought every year with selected works by older painters to improve the collection. The founding donation of the National Gallery is a collection of works Björn Bjarnason (1853-1918) Icelandic lawyer in Copenhagen, collected so his countrymen would be able to enjoy the fine art in their very own gallery of art. In this collection are works by many of Denmark's finest artists, such as Joakim Skovgaard, Christian Blache and Peter Krøyer. The founding donation also included gifts like the bequest of Edvald J. Johnsen a Copenhagen physician, from the year 1893 and contribution from King Christian IX and Crown Princess Louise of Denmark. By the year 1900, 74 paintings and 2 sculptures had been registered, along with a selection of prints. Icelandic artists were not many at this time but, soon after the turn of the century, their numbers increased. The first Icelandic work the collection received was the sculpture Outlaws by Einar Jónsson, donated in 1902 and than in 1911 the collection received its first painting by Þórarinn B. Þorláksson, Repose. In the collection are ...

Eyfells Sculpture Creation Expressions
Duration : 598 Seconds

Johann Eyfells has hundreds of these sculptures all over his ten acre yard. They are quite a sight. I noticed them from driving by and had to turn in and explore these forms. Fortunately Johann Eyfells himself was there and he invited us to view all of this, even taking us into his home which was filled with more of his wife's paintings. She painted faces and parts of faces giving them lines and colors that are very interesting. You can find out more about his move of all his sculpture on a website entitled www.EyfellsandEyfells.com

Extraordinary people - Daniel Tammet - Pt1 of 3
Duration : 576 Seconds

Daniel Tammet has the capability to visualize each number up to 10000 with its own unique shape and feel. He can "see" results of calculations as landscapes, and he can "sense" whether a number is prime or composite. He has described his visual image of 289 as particularly ugly, 333 as particularly attractive, and pi as beautiful. Tammet not only verbally describes these visions, but also creates artwork, particularly watercolor paintings, such as his painting of Pi. Tammet speaks a variety of languages including English, French, Finnish, German, Spanish, Lithuanian, Romanian, Estonian, Icelandic, Welsh and Esperanto. He particularly likes Estonian, because it is rich in vowels. Tammet is creating a new language called Mänti. Mänti has many features related to Finnish and Estonian, both of which are Finno-ugric languages. Some sources credit Tammet as creating the Uusisuom and Lapsi languages as well. Tammet is capable of learning new languages very quickly. To prove this for the Channel Five documentary, Tammet was challenged to learn Icelandic in one week. Seven days later he appeared on Icelandic television conversing in Icelandic, with his Icelandic language instructor saying it was "not human."
